I'm Asian, and I rock English.
I'm not sure if I'm good at math or not; I never paid much attention to the subject (for the sake of dodging the stereotype).

Yeah, obviously, the stereotype will die more as less immigrants come, and the ABCs, ABTs, ABJs, ABKs, ABVs and what not kill their kids' math skills.

I'm ok at math, but quite frankly, it bores me.

im good in math and i love it
im ok in science
if ur not good in math and ur asian ur a disgrace to asians
no lol jk ;)

alexx is the flip adoption stereotype. i'm completely flabbergasted....(did i even spell that correctly?)

but yeah... when i was in regular algebra back in frosh year i had TWO asians copying off me.

what now, homie?

;-)

Asians are just stereotypically all-around smart here too.

This all reminds me of a Dat Phan comedy bit where he talks about being the only Asian kid failing math class...

I'm half-Asian so I'm half-good at math and science.

Lmao!

Adopted. I've gone through the obligatory bowlcuts and the "AIYAAAs", Chinese is even my mother tongue. Why am I still hopeless at math?

I still say it's genetic. xD

Alex

Yeah, it probably is. But man, going through the obligatory bowl cuts and not having the math skills is not fair at all.

Lol, probably the only 2 Asian kids in Algebra I as 9th graders.

I feel they, me included, are bookworms. You should see the social life of students in China= next to nth.

Well, it did maintain the self-delusion that I was Chinese until I was like. 6 or 7. ;) And I was fantastic in math until I was like. 6 or 7.

Self-deception is a powerful thing.

Cheers,
Alex

Science is my least favorite subject. And where my teachers think the least about me. So I guess no.

I'm Indian, if that counts, and I'm pretty good at science.

ok. I'm chinese and I HATE math! It does NOT come easily to me. I still do well in it though in terms of grades in school.... but the reason I do well in it (or anything in school, for that matter) is that I work super hard. It is not the "being asian" that makes people have propensity towards one subject or another, but rather its the culture and work ethic people grow up with. My parents encouraged hard work and persistence, and that's the only reason I do well in school at all.

I think that many asian parents have a very strong work ethic and thus their children grow up in the same environment and with the same very high expectations.

Yeah, I agree peachiepizzazz, my parents are Asian, and they do inspire a strong work ethic. I am a mathematical disaster, yet I have done extensive work to be able to take Calculus this year. My parents had dictated to me that I must work to attend Harvard, and that instilled in me a drive to do better (now, though, I don't want to go to Harvard).

what is it about harvard that makes asian parents drool? i would say that at least 75% of my asian friends have parents that would seriously be disappointed if them if they didn't get in. is it just the prestige or is it something else?

Did you know China has more honor students than the U.S. has students?

Wow, really!

That comes as a huge surprise to me considering that China has over a billion people and the U.S. has a few hundred million people!

I wanna know the same answer to that. My parents never mention P, Y, MIT, Stanford (they know those schools duh), but obsess over H. Prolly with it's #1 place in the world, although many people say that the education there is slipshod.

im indian..south asian i guess. i get the whole "indians are ALWAYS smart steareotype. i had a guy come up to me with a postulate that indianss automatically get better grades than white people. I dont break the stereotype (i am intelligent), but im def. not a nerd that stays home to study thank god. haha But uts funny the questions ppl ask. Does your dad own a seven eleven? DO you worship cows? Ha

well, i mean i guess some stereotypes are good. like the smart one. but others, not so much.

and my parents are the typical YOU HAVE TO BE A DOCTOR! i mean seriosloym, my dad will be at the dinner table going my one dream is for you do become a doctor, and i know you will do it. you have all the qualities. very wierd.

I guess Harvard just has the bigger name, I mean, when you think rich, intellectual college, most people hink Harvard. It's just a stereotype.

The worst is probably "Do you speak Indian?"

^ lol, i actually know what you mean. my friends were talking to me about that the other day!! im not indian though...
