Stereotypes...

Every now and then I actually read the online Jamaican newspaper, but most times I don't bother. It is sad to see so many articles about people killed in violence. I remember when I was in Jamaica once and I purchased a newspaper and the obituaries extended to 4-5 pages... X_X

There were like 20 people on one page alone...

When I went to india in 1996...there was a crash between 2 busses...i think everybody died...they drive literally crazy there....you just drive whatever way you want...and this stuff isnt uncommon there either

So sad...that's terrible. There are crazy drivers everywhere.

At the same time...I worry when I am in another country. I get a heck of a lot more paranoid. Especially when someone else is driving.

i think we have it pretty good in the US

Oh yes, very good in the US. Everytime I visit family in JA...I feel extremely grateful. No way I am going to waste opportunity up here.

i havent been out of the country since i was in 2nd grade

I went out of the country last year, but the last time I went to Jamaica was about 3 or 4 years ago I believe.

No offense to NJ, but it sucks pretty bad out there. I have family in diff parts of NJ(Newark and Irvington in North Jersey, and Asbury Park and Neptune by the shore). There isn't much to do, it's ok to raise a family I guess, but it's boring. Just a crapload of malls.

people used to think seattle was just geek place (microsoft, Sierra, blizzard north, gaming and computer stuff was all here before the dotcom fiasco), but now i think its got a much more friendly, general reputation.

oh and our coffee is infamous worldwide.

i wish i lived in seattle just for the coffee. hahaha do you guys sleep at all up there?

I think New Jersey has a really bad reputation and that people judge based on what they see when they look at NJ from NYC. They see factories, and gross cities like Newark, Jersey City, and Elizabeth. What they don't see are the pretty, fun parts of New Jersey. There are tons of nice, wealthy, safe towns. Bergen County is really nice, Princeton is a very safe, pretty town. And although life in these suburbs can be kind of boring, kids can always drive to the shore, which is a lot of fun. There are some really nice beaches, although there are some scummy ones as well. But I think New Jersey is not as bad as its hyped up to be.

I agree that it's not as bad as people make it to be, but it's nothing great either. I've been to these so-called "nice-areas" of NJ(all along the shore, and places like Princeton, Short Hills, Paramus, etc). It's not dirty, but it's not exciting.

one girl up north that i met last summer thought that there was still slavery in the south. She asked me if i'd ever been enslaved. i just starred at her, hoping that maybe...juts maybe she was joking. i can't believe the level of ignorance of some ppl.

^^lol......

^^^OMFG...wow. By the wya guys I reside in the Bergen County area and the only good thing is distance to NYC, malls, and other commercial areas. There are very few, hangout spots unlike other places I have seen like Boston has a lot of really chill places and so does California. Conneticut is just as boring just slightly richer.

Union County...nothing good around...except Jersey Gardens - the world's biggest outlet mall.

If you wanna do anything good...just hop on one of the NJ transit busses to NYC...from my house it only costs $5 to the city...or you can drive to newark and take the path for $2...which isnt too bad

Or you could live here...;)

nah...too expensive...my cousin lives near time square..rent is $2k and she shares an apt with a roommate

Yeah, that is why no one lives near times square....

I love NJ because its such a unique quirky state and its your never too far from the beach. Have some pride in our state.

you know you're from new jersey when...
