Hi, it's stated on the NYU Stern website that a student can take a maximum of 18 Stern elective credits. I'm confused as to in what terms they mean this.

For example, if I were to major in Finance, then I would need to take 9 credits of advanced finance electives. Does this mean that if I were to single major in finance, then I would have only 9 Stern elective credits remaining?

Or does the 18 elective max mean that AFTER fulfilling the requirements of your first Stern major (ex. Finance), then one would have 18 elective credits that one may take in Stern? example, if I were to double major in Finance and accounting, then since Finance is declared my first major, then I would have 18 Stern electives remaining, which then, if i were to add the general accounting major (12 credits), then I would be left with 6 Stern credits remaining?

Could anyone who has insight on this clarify? Thanks

You have 38 elective credits, not sure where you’re getting 18. You need to take 12 credits in finance courses to major in it. That does not cut into your elective credits, however your second major will

yea its a total of 38 elective credits however among those 38 elective credits, one can only take 18 elective credits at STERN. This is what made me confused =S

ok I just checked out the 2013 worksheet you gave me and I found out the 38 elective credits (in which ONLY 18 credits of them may be at STERN), is separate from one’s original major.

That is a great worksheet for Stern. Is there an equivalent one for CAS that you know of. My son can work off of the Stern one but it would be great to have one specific to CAS. Thanks!

Sorry, I don’t know if CAS has their own. You would have to contact their advising office or search their website. I know that they have different requirements for their core and such, so I’m not sure how reliable it would be to work off the Stern worksheet.
