Stern and Morse Academic Plan (MAP)

I am a prospective student at Stern.. and I have a question regarding the MAP.
For the first two semester, I would like to take one music course for each semester, in which case taking of MAP classes must be deferred to make it work.
Are MAP classes mandatory for freshmen and sophomores?
or may I take them later in my collegiate career (i.e junior or senior year)?
I would like to minor in music, and hope to take some classes early on before my passion for classical music fades away...

not mandatory, but it is in your best interest to take at least some of the MAP courses early

You'll be relatively free to construct your own class schedule. Everything just needs to be run by an advisor. In my first semester at NYU, two of my courses were MAP, and two were not.

Thanks everyone!! I like their core, its just that I would like to some music classes early on and MAP classes are the only ones really to give way..

Current Stern Students: Please post your courses for freshman year first semester. Thank you.

first semester:
calc 1
writing the essay
conwest:19th cent
econ 1 (macro)

second semester:
wte 2 (sterns specific one)
comp based
econ 2 (micro)
world cultures: russia

All required classes(though you can pick you subtopic for con west and world cultures). Comp based and wte 2 are the only stern specific classes I'm taking. Conwest is a philosophy class is anybodies wondering. Lastly, I have an AP science credit, if you don't have one you will probably not taking any stern specific classes freshmen year aside from wte2 (unless you have macro or stat ap credits)

that should answer the question and any subsequent questions.
