Hi guys!
So I have to take the calc placement test on June 11 and I was wondering if anyone who took the test before or knows anyone who's taken it can tell me what's on it. You don't need to get too specific, I just want to know if its more like the SAT math section or like a calc exam.
Thanks in advance for the help!!

You can take some practice tests here - [Department of Mathematics, Courant Institute](CAS Calculus Information | Department of Mathematics | NYU Courant)

Stern students take calculus in CAS so the placement exam is the same as everyone else’s right? Assuming it is, the test is very easy, and I’m terrible at math. Only 10 questions, some are multiple choice, and the math is basic, like algebra and a bit of easy geometry and trig. You only need to get like half the questions right to place into Calc I. I did the practice tests bluemom posted before I took the exam, and found they were unnecessary - the real exam is a lot simpler.

great thanks for your replies!!

It’s not Stern calc it is in CAS for everyone. Well technically it’s in the Courant Institute… Placement exam’s really easy.

Does everyone take the same exam regardless of which Calculus they’re trying to place into. Is it like you have to get a certain amount of points to place into Calc I, Calc II, etc.?

^ No…there are separate exams for each level. Like I said, the Calc I exam is super easy, so no need to worry about it.

The Calc II and III exams are significantly harder from what I hear. They actually take more than 15 minutes! :P

Can you use the Calculus I exam to place into Honors Calculus I? I took Calculus I in high school this year, but I don’t feel completely ready for Calculus II, and as a math minor I want to make sure I know my stuff. At the same time, I don’t want to just learn everything over again.
