Hi, I will be starting as a freshman this fall. I’m an international student, trying to figure out my schedule for next year… It would be much appreciated if you can tell me what you think of my plans in terms of work load and any other advice in terms of scheduling for freshman year. Thanks!

4 credits: Calc II (I took BC junior year…so I might be a little rusty)
4 credits: Microecon (I heard the teacher for the fall semester is great)
4 credits: Texts & Ideas (could you describe the courses a little for me?)
4 credits: Commerce & Culture (in place of WTE / my SAT W is 800)
2 credits: Stats (I’m hoping to pass the placement exam…taking AP Stats right now)

Natural Science requirement is waived with a 4 or 5 on AP Chem right? Thanks for the help!

Texts and Ideas is just a lecture based English course. You will read between 4-12 texts in a semester depending on the course with two to three papers and a midterm and a final. It is for the most part an easy class if you aren’t incompetent and do at least some of the reading (LECTURE IS MANDATORY SO DON’T TAKE THIS IN THE MORNING).

Only advice I can give you is that Vincent Renzi is a difficult professor and if you aren’t a talented writer, you’re going to suffer if you take him. (Great lecturer though).

I’m starting as a freshman at Stern this fall, and I’m making my schedule now.

How many credits can people generally handle at a time?
Also, how can I find out about good/bad professors? Any recommendations for the MAP classes?

Hi, Thank you for your willingness to help. I am a junior and will apply for colleges this late summer or Fall. Do you think taking a business class at an Ivy league school this summer will help with admission to Stern? Does NYU admission require some outstanding community service? Did you take any business related classes in high school? Thank you for your prompt reply!

Hello, I’m currently writing my admission essays for NYU. I’ve pretty much have a good idea what to write for the last two essays. But the first essay, “Why NYU”, is leaving me somewhat stumped.

Heres the basis of my essays. Im currently in the Marine Corps, and am writing about how the Marine Corps turned me into a leader. But im having trouble connecting this to the question, Why NYU. I dont want to just outright answer why NYU, because it would seem like im just flattering them.

I could write how I want to become a leader in Business or something, but theres still the “Why NYU” factor, and not making it sound like im kissing their asses.

I pretty much have half the essay done, but not sure if I should just scrap it and pick a different topic for “Why NYU”. If you’re interested, care to read what I have so far?

Cohort Leadership Project course (0 units)

a Writing course (4 units)

a Math course (4 units)

either a Texts & Ideas OR Cultures & Contexts/Global Cultures course (4 units)

a Microeconomics*, Statistics, or Science course, or Elective (4–6 units)

My problem is with point 5. I want to take Spanish as an elective. If I take Spanish, what happens to the 3 others ? Will I have to take them at some point ?

Also, I see there are Spanish courses with 4 and 6 credits. I love it so I am willing to take the 6 credit one. Is this a bad idea?

It just sounds weird that I’m in a Business school, but in the end I only take one Math class!

This is what my schedule looks like right now:

Is this on the right track?
-GPA: 3.7
-SAT: 1930
-5 AP Classes: AP ECON MICRO, AP ECON MACRO, AP LIT, AP GOV, AP STATISTICS
-Varsity Baseball, Varisty Track
-Chess Team and Engineering club for a year each
-Went to Guadaloupe for a month and built houses for the poor
-Went to both of my sisters orphanages in China and saved up the money I invested in the stock market and donated 1,000 dollars to each orphanage.
-Entrepreneur club

P.S. I go to a top 100 school in the U.S. and I am looking to apply early decision…

Im currently writing my admissions essays. I decided to tackle the hardest one (for me) first, Why NYU. I was wondering if you’d be interested in giving it a read and criticism.

Hey jen, I have a question for you. I will be in CAS this fall with an undecided major. I want to transfer into stern and major in Accounting and Finance. I am aware that internal transfer is very hard but my sister did it so I’m guessing its not impossible. If I do not get into Stern, I will major in CAS economics.

The requirements for internal stern transfer are - WTE, calc 1 and Microecon. I am thinking about taking Econ Principles 2 (Microecon) this fall. I want to know if I should take Econ principles 1(Macro) as well? My sister told me that macro econ is not beneficial for stern. But I want to be suree about it.

My schedule for fall is :
Principles of Econ 2 (Micro)
Calc 2
Cohort seminar
Nat Science

Spring Schedule:
Statistics
WTE
Intro to FA
Intern Micro/Text and ideas

what do you think of my schedule?
Thankyouuu

Hello! I will be a freshman this fall. I have some questions for you. Do you recommend to take Microeconomics and Statistics together in the same semester?

There are two courses for Statistics:Statistics for Business Control and Regression/Forecasting Models (STAT-UB 103; 6 units), OR Statistics for Business Control (STAT-UB 1; 4 units). Which one is better to take?

Is there a new policy for taking Calculus for this year? It looks like if you have a 4 or 5 on BC Calculus, you don’t have to take Calculus I or higher level math. Is it better to take Calculus I even though I have a 5 on BC? If I take Calculus I in fall, do I have to take Calculus II in spring? Is it true that Stern students have to complete only one Calculus course while at Stern? Thank you.
