Hi, I just have a few questions about the finance and accounting majors at Stern.

I know a lot of Finance majors co-major in General Accounting but how is the CPA-track Accounting and Finance double major?

How many people in Stern don't major in Finance? It seems, at least from this forum, that most people are planning on either majoring or co-majoring in Finance.

Would it be stupid to not major in Finance considering Stern is sooo good for Finance? Especially when Accounting at Baruch is also good and so much cheaper?

Most people do major in finance, but I also know some students who do marketing or CPA-track accounting. It's not dumb to not major in finance. Do what you want to do. Don't go to a certain school because it's strong for something you don't want to do. So major should come first, then school and not the other way around. No matter what you do at Stern, you'll have a lot of opportunities, and since the undergraduate business degree is liberal in nature, you get a mix of everything in your education anyway.

I know some people doing CPA accounting AND finance. If you can handle the coursework, it might open a lot of doors in the business world, but I bet it's tough. About CUNY Baruch, it's not a bad school. I would think you get some good opportunities in the city just the same, but the thing is, I still think NYU Stern is more prestigious and is favored by recruiters, but of course you can argue that.

I, too, have a question about co-majoring for others on cc who can help. What I haven't seen too much of is the economics and finance co-major. I want to do either general accounting + finance or theory economics + finance. Any suggestions? I heard they were both good co-major choices.

thanks! lots of good info. you're probably right. who knows, by the time i actually have to choose a major, i might be totally into one of the other majors :)
