Hey CCers,
I want to go into medicine but want to major in economics. Would I be able to apply to Stern and then for graduate school get into med school?
Thanks

Med schools don’t require bio majors or whatever. But a background in the sciences is useful especially for MCAT

You are required to take bio, physics, general and organic chem, and maybe a few other classes, but other than that, you can major in whatever you want.

I have no idea what Stern is, but if you’re wondering if econ majors can go to med school, the answer is undoubtedly yes–as long as they take the premed prereq courses (bio, chem, orgo, physics, english, math) designed for science majors, earn high enough stats (GPA and MCAT), and complete all the necessary extracurriculars (eg research, shadowing, volunteering, leadership, campus involvement, employment…)

Stern is nyu’s business school

As long as you can take the pre-med classes through NYU arts and sciences it would be ok.

alright thank you guys! do you think it would very difficult to major in econ and also taking premed courses?

You won’t be the first or only applicant to do so…Whether you succeed or not is all up to you.

I can name 2 posters on this board who have done so successfully.
