I realize you can major at practically anything and still have a chance of becoming a management consultant, but between a Finance major at Stern and a Econ major at CAS, who would do better?

whoever can kiss more ass will get the job.

hm........

It's consulting...no technical skills are required. If you want to be in the field you better like traveling a lot, doing everything in a team, and performing SWOT analysis on why a hotel should or should not add a bathroom to its 1st floor.

I know what they do.........

you don't know what they do, unless you've actually interviewed with them.

...what does it have to do with what I ACTUALLY asked? I ask for a simple opinion on the question by current NYU students

Depends on the person. top management consultants hire the best people. I'd say finance would be better, because it automatically exposes you to the business world. However, an econ major that regularly reads up on business news and holds equal ibanking/consulting internships as the sternie will have the same chance. (a HIGH GPA is required for both... 3.8-3.9 range for a top tier one)
