STERN or CAS???

ok I'm sending out my application today, and was still wondering if there's a chance for me at Stern.

SAT: 1310(660 M,650 V)
SAT II: 700 Math Ic, 650 Writing, 720 US History
GPA: 89ish(school doesn't do GPA)

What do you think? Should I stick with CAS, or be risky if there's a chance?

Bump Up My Post

cmon guys it's either
1) Yes, smandel, be a man and go for stern
or
2) No man, take it easy...take it slow.

You would have to be pretty lucky to get into Stern with those stats, but you never know, I have seen some surprises this year.

-Jerod

With your stats, I'd say stick w/ CAS. There's a thread called 'Undergrad B-Schools' in the College Admissions forum, and according to nyusternman, "Stern is about as hard as a program you can take. Certainly harder than Haas" and "From what I know Wharton and Stern are known to be two of the hardest programs of any discipline, in the country." Tough program+highly selective.

And how are your ECs/essays?

he should still apply if he wants to go to Stern. I don't think anyone should apply with the intent to transfer or to apply to CAS just because it is easier to get into.

Well my EC's are not so strong, but I do have great essays and great recs. I guess unless I'm some kind of Wunderkind then it's useless to apply to Stern. There are plenty of other things to study, so maybe applying CAS won't be so bad.

If you want to go to Stern, you should apply to Stern. The chances would get into either school are about the same so you should apply to the one you would rather go to because it is extremely unlikely that you would be able to transfer.

admissions to Stern is much more selective/difficult than that of CAS.

Just a quick question for the experts, is it extremely difficult to transfer from CAS to Stern?

Yes, very. Only 1-5 people can transfer in internally a year. Just take bs classes in CAS, get a 4.0 and you can have a great shot.

Is it only selective to transfer into Stern or is this the case for most colleges' Business school?

I can't speak for other schools; before like maybe even 10 students a year transferred internally into Stern. But I've been told Stern is tightening up and letting in maybe 3 per yr from now on, and may also no longer be allowing GSp students to transfer after completing the GSP program

It's not impossible.
