well I have always thought that I would go to Stern for Finance, lately I've been thinking about other options like Economics at Stern or CAS or History(obviously over at CAS). I might double major too.

anyway my stats -

SAT I : CR600 M700 W560 - should I retake again? this is my 2nd.
SAT II: Math II 600 (obviously retaking soon), Chinese 710
class rank: 12/57
form rank (collective of all 3 classes): 24/151
average: 78.87 (1/151 was 84.2)

State/Country: Sabah, Malaysia
Gender: Female
School type: private, top in state
Ethnicity: Malaysian Chinese
1st language is English followed by Malay and Mandarin (about the same level) and am able to speak local dialects.

I'm going to have amazing recommendations from my teachers (if we don't have counselors can we send recommendations from a teacher instead?).
My results have been improving dramatically (from 120th position to 24th in forms and from 45th to 12th in class) and my scores have been too.

I guess I'm asking for advice on how can I improve my chances? Is my SAT alright? I don't really want to go and take it anymore...I'd kill myself. It's so LONG and I have to retake my SAT IIs.

Oh, and would mediocre grades in weird, funny but stupid subjects like Moral Education and Malay affect my chances?

And also what would you guys recommend me doing based on my results?

I was thinking the same…but the only date I have left is the October one and I don’t know whether to retake the SAT or the Subject Tests. Obviously the SAT is a big factor but if I can not take it again I’d be a very happy camper. I’m also afraid that my bad Math II score will affect my chances.

I would retake the SAT II Math and try to aim above a 750, and then show the admissions committee that you can write very well through an outstanding essay (in order to make up for the CR and Writing SAT scores).

you should retake the SAT I and try to boost those SAT II scores, because your Math is low. A 710 on Chinese is good, but it’s not amazing considering that it’s your 2nd language. At first I thought 78 was a really low average, but now I see you have a really high rank…you must take really difficult classes. And yeah, you can probably submit a reccomendation from a teacher since you don’t have a counselor.

OOOooooo…i have the same problem!
my SAT 1- 1820
SAT 2- math 1- 600
bio- 580
Funnily enough, i’m one of the top bio students in my class and my school is the most competitive one in my city.

and the worst part is im appyling early decision.so, i have only the october sats- i can either pick SAT 1 or 2. great.

molly4190: Unfortunately, I’m only okay in understanding it orally and I believe that was why a chunk of my marks were gone because I couldn’t read the characters and had to guess.

CollectivSynergy: it was on the NYU website that it may or may not be considered, that is why I’m worried.

hirokee: I was never a good standardized test taker! good luck though :)

I know that my SATs are quite low for Stern but I may take Econ over at CAS if there is really no chance for me to get into Stern with my SAT scores. I’m hoping that other things will make up for my low scores.

Oh, and would a distinction in the University of New South Wales English Competitions help in any way to make up for my poor CR & writing scores?
