please tell me if i have a chance i think that i am doomed due to a 3.65 gpa
also if it helps my dad is a law professor at a university and a judge

do you want to know how many communit services i have?
over 1500 hours. i am dead serious. no wonder why I applied to the School of Social Work

Depends on what you're interested in. If you're set on business, go for Stern. If you want more options and/or something besides business, go for College of Arts and Sciences. You are well qualified for either.

NYU is my back up to the ivies, don't get me wrong I love NYU but my dream is to go to an ivy, since I don't have the best shot at the ivies do you think I should apply to Stern or the College, if I don't get into NYU or an ivy I won't have a college to go to. Do you think I have a good chance at Stern or should I just play it safe and apply to the College?

Ivymath,

It depends on what you want to study...business or liberal arts. The 2 schools have very similar standards (avg. SAT's, avg. GPA, etc)...if you don't get into one of them, you are in all certainty not getting into the other, so don't worry about your chances at one versus the other, just apply where you want.

CAS and Stern attract different types of students. CAS kids are type that want to go to med school, law school, get PhDs or just have no idea and want to explore their options, whereas Stern kids are gung ho business and take classes like accounting, finance, marketing, etc.(none of which I ever had any interest in high school). Myself, I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school, so took the liberal arts route, went to CAS, and ended up working on wall st. So figure out what type of person you are, and apply to that school.

Good luck.

-NYU class of '00

Your chances are probably pretty good.

On an unrelated note, NYU as a back up is pretty dicey. They have really made large strides in their acceptance standards, and are highly competitive these days. But I am sure you already know all about this. It doesn't stop loads of people from applying to NYU as a back up, but it is rather dissapointing to be rejected from your safety.

I don't usually weigh in on chances posts but I have to say here that NYU should really not be considered a safety to anyone. Ivymath, I hope we're all misunderstanding you and that NYU is not the only school you're applying to other than an Ivy. That would be a very silly mistake to make at this point with your stats. While your stats generally very good, there is never any guarantee at NYU who they are going to choose. If Regular Decision ends up like Early Decision with record numbers of applicants, then the odds are going to be reduced even further. Just keep in mind that in most years more than 70% of applicants who apply are not admitted. You should certainly do a little research and find yourself some other schools to apply to!

What exactly would qualify yourself as tutor?

I help out my friends so much that I think I can consider myself to be a tutor..:o

Thanks for your input can you suggest a good safety school?
About being a tutor, I stay after school and in the tutoring lab and help classmates in math, its part of the requirements of being in math honor society.

Ah... my friends just always come up to me and ask for my help.

That kinda qualifies me...I do it for free too!
