Help me decide :) I am a transfer student from community college.

I hear there is some kind of stigma associated with GS in Columbia

But isn't it still Ivy education?

NYU is nice and all, but it is costing me a lot of money (no grant)

then i also have William and Mary in my back pocket as well.

Any inputs are appreciated, especially from people who know both school inside out.

Thanks

wasnt the decision due to nyu already?

DecisionTime, can u post ur stats?

I am a transfer, I just got the NYU letter today. deposit is due 3 weeks from now to NYU.

WEll my stats are not really super.

4.0 college GPA (17 credits)
20 credits in process (4.0 midterm grades)
No high school (GED) perfect score on math and science
Sat: 710 on math, 550 on english
290 on toefl
Honors curriculum
good recommendation letters
couple of extracurricular activities

25 years old ;P
and very interesting essay.

I am not the superstar, but i think i can certainly hold my weight wether it's NYU or columbia or William and Mary.

Thanks, DecisionTime, and CONGRATS!!!!!
i hope you have fun deciding!!!

it's no fun at all :( it's like your life split into two path.

and until i got the admission letter, i didn't know the money mattered this much. but it really does when u are thinking of ways to afford NYU education.

P.S. i got those grades while working 40 hours a week at a bank.so maybe they liked that? wutever the case, i dont' think i was very well qualified at all...

you deserve your admission to nyu, columbia, and w&m.
look how that all paid off!
i hope you look on the bright side!
btw, is nyu your first choice?

i have no clue which one is my first choice.

columbia is pulling me, but the school of general studies is not as prestigious as columbia college.

I really dunno. i am gonna have a lot of thought put into this decision

wait...isnt columbia the same price as nyu????

NYU gave me almost nothing in grants

COlumbia did. so it made columbia general studies cheaper

Columbia is Columbia. NYU isn't worth the extra over a Columbia.

thanks for all your inputs, i really appreciate it

I forgot to mention that i am still waiting for transfer decision from Upenn CAS. so i guess i will make my final decision as soon as i hear from them.

Also, I know i wouldn't have been accepted at columbia college as a transfer. But is it possible to transfer to columbia college after a year or so at general studies?

eh, i think stern is better than columbia GS. i've even heard people say stern over columbia before.

oh. one more thing

Is it true that the NYU is the biggest Ivy reject school?

nah probably not. how can nyu be the biggest ivy reject school if it was voted the number 1 dream school? i'd say the biggest ivy reject school is probably tufts or washu.

NYU Stern is the greatest.

"NYU Stern is the greatest" uhm....

The Columbia section has a GS thread, have you read it? Supposedly it is every bit as good as Columbia, except that is for older students who are continuing their education. Students who had posted there seemed every bit as qualified and smart as anyone getting into other top schools. GS at Columbia is not the same as GSP at NYU, where you are in a 2-year program, and acceptance into NYU is dependeent on a 3.0 gpa after 2 years.

Please look into this decision carefully, dig deeper into their websites, and don't casually take any advice you may read here. I am assuming that you have posted a similar question on the Columbia thread??
