Is Wharton that much better than Stern?

You really think you'll find someone on the NYU message board who would disparage Stern?

I'm applying to NYU-Steinhardt and Wharton. My AIM is guitardude3355... it's probably not best to talk about it here...

David,

I dont think anyone, even diehard loyal NYU-ers on this board would try to argue that Wharton is not the best b-school.

That being said, the gap between Stern and Wharton is very very tiny. The student body and job opps. that grads get are very similar. You really can't go wrong at either school...go to one you like.

Who said Wharton is the best b-school? Business Week, which is very respectable, ranked Northwestern as number 1 and University of Chicago as number 2.

thats an mba ranking j10cpc5000.

Yea, I know that, I read the article. We are talking about B-school which means Business Schools. And they were ranking business schools.

i thought we are talking about undergrad business programs. neither northwestern or chicago has undergraduate business programs.

Wharton is unmistakably the best, but Stern is just slightly below it, and with Stern in the best possible city for a business school, I don't think which is better should be anybody's determining factor.

I graduated from Stern (the Tisch school of Business) in 1980. This is anecdotal but.....while I received an excellent education there I feel that I always lived in the shadow of Wharton Students. The reputation of Wharton is overwhelming especially with Fortune 500 companies. Naturally ,the college name game is disappearing as society has been on a diversity quest in the last ten years. I do forsee a day when it will not matter from a prestige point of view whether one attended NYU or Wharton, for now I am afraid that Wharton has the edge when it comes to name recognition.

song man if you dont mind me asking.. how good of job did u get upon graduating/now?. what did you major in? and how high ranked were you at stern?

My brother graduated from the Notre Dame MBA and many of his co-workers are from Wharton. They have no advantage over him.

Ps. He works for Johnson and Johnson in Penn.
