stern transfer chances

Rutgers Uni-Business

College GPA: 3.95/4.00
30 credits + 6 AP so far.
Taking another 15 first semester and expecting 3.9 or higher GPA.
Met all required prereqs (except one due to school rules) and many suggested prereqs.
Worked part-time

High School GPA: 3.2/4.00
SAT: 2170/2400 *Considering retaking as I can easily break 2300 now so maybe I should...
SAT 2s: 700/800 math 690/800 history

So Ill probably tie in something about maturity and realizing responsibilities etc going from HS to college and improving my grades and what not.
Gonna apply to couple of other schools as well but i'm really sold on Stern. Such a perfect fit for me, the campus and all.

What do you guys think? Match? Low-Reach?
edit: transferring for the fall 2012 year btw. will begin my junior year at that time.

Biggest question: Can you afford Stern? As a transfer you’ll get little to no aid and all of the offered financial aid will be in loans. Expect to pay full price ~ $60,000/yr.

Your high school GPA may hurt you even though college GPA is the main focus.

Because you’re in college, I believe, NYU does not require you to submit the SAT. However, NYU does discourage retaking the SAT. Why? Because not all applicants will have taken the SAT again when they apply for transfer. Which gives you an unfair advantage. So don’t retake the SAT; your current SAT score is fine.

I’d say it’s a low reach. But, Stern accepts very few transfers because they have such a high retention rate and yield rate.

Yea, wow didn’t know about the lack of aid for transfers. Anyway we can afford it, but this is definitely going to factor into the decision-making process now.

Anyway, i did except the HS gpa to hurt but figured an upward trend may make up for it, especially since I will have 3 years worth of college gpa (w/ the idea that a semester = 1 year work in hs).

Alrighty then, won’t retake the SAT.

Thanks for the chance. Honestly I was a bit optimistic and was hoping this would be a match but ofc, with an absolute top undergrad b-school it’s not easy. Also, i’m planning on doing my second semester abroad at University College- London and will add that to my application so that hopefully strengthens it.

Also, I’m gonna apply to a couple of the top 10s because my eventual goal is Investment Banking and being from a target school makes life much easier down the road.

Somewhat higher HS GPA’s + somewhat lower college GPA’s have been denied T10 schools, but accepted to T20 schools. Since Stern is a T10 B school, you may have some difficulty getting in. But, not knowing your exact GPA breakdown, I can’t really say.

gpa breakdown? like what do you mean? If you want to my grades then I got an “A” in everything except Writing for Business and Professions.
Classes I took so far:
Intro Micro/Macro
Intermediate Micro
Writing for Business/Professions
US History 2
World Literature
Intro to Stats for Business
Calculus I
Business Forum
Intro to Human Evolution (Science)
Current:
Computer Applications for Business
Financial Accounting
European History 1
Planet Earth (Science)
Money and Banking

Also planning on studying abroad second semester. Job throughout College 20+ hours a week as an assistant to a Mortgage Finance Officer

Bump. My GPA has since dropped to a 3.88. (12 a’s and 4 B+s). But i’m probably going to pull it back up to a 3.9 After this semester as I’m expecting 4 more A’s.

I’ve applied to Wharton
Cornell
UVA- Mcintire
and Stern

Cornell= Denied
Wharton= May 10th
UVA-Mcintire = Accepted
Stern= Some time in may.

At this point, nothing that we say will change your results. My advice to you is to get off college confidential and relish in the fact that even if you get rejected from wharton, and stern, you still have uva, which is a very good b school.

Try to stop worrying–we can’t change what happened, and you’re looking for guidance in the wrong place. Go outside and enjoy the fresh air.

All the best to you.

forgot to say i got in yaaay

Congrats! What about Wharton?
