Stern vs. Tepper

So, I got into both the Stern School of Business at NYU and the Tepper School of Busines at Carnegie Mellon University! Regardless of financial aide, if you were in my shoes which would you choose and why?

well, i think it depends on your major...if it's finance, stern is the place to go. otherwise I can't help you

I would definetely go to Stern. I might be biased since I am going to Stern next year, but the opportunities that Stern offers compared to Tepper is innumerable. Stern is more respected than Tepper in the New York City firms and probably most other firms in the country. In addition, it will be much easier to get an internship out of Stern. I also think an important thing that is overlooked for some people is that you will be spending the next four years of your life somewhere that will set you up for the future. If you plan on working in NYC after college, than NYU will help you get acquinted with the City better than Tepper. Also, Stern has much better connections.

There are probably more things, but I cant think of them now

Hey 2100, I'm also gonna be going to Stern next year, but I was thinking about internships the other day. Yes, we will be in NYC, but you also need to consider the sheer number of Stern Students who will be applying for internships. I mean, each class is approximately 500 people right? So....almost all seniors/juniors and many sophmores and the occasional odd freshman get one, so that's probably something like 1400 people looking for internships.

I'm sorta worried that with so many people from Stern looking for an internship that competition will be crazy. In that case, someone from Tepper might actually have an advantage. The recruiter will just have read like 15 Stern Student applications for the internship and then he sees Tepper....AHH...FINALLY....someone different.

Although....maybe I am overthinking this, lol

ok, what if u come from some no-name business school from florida state (not disisng). will they pick the no-name cause its "different" ?

In the end, Stern education > Tepper.

About the internship, you are overthinking it. First off, not everyone applies for an internship (even though they should). Second, you should be confident in your abilities to get good grades to get that premier internship.

Let other people chime in besides me.

Well, unlike the CMU board, everyone here LOVES Stern! Regarding internships, Tepper has many internships available. The small class size (84 students) combined with the fact that Tepper is located in a growing city allows for good internships without a gigantic amount of competition.

Yea....pbwain, that's what I was thinking. But hey, I went to Sunday in the Square for Stern Scholars and had a great time. Apparantly, someone from a HS really nearby got in and 1) we were the first two there and 2) we have a lotta friends in common.

hehe, meh, yea, i think i'm overthinking it. Looking forward to a great year at Stern =] (I just wish they gave me a little more scholarship....)
