I have been debating which school I should actually enroll in. I will do anything in my power to attend either of these schools, regardless of money, so I would like you to help me make an informed decision based on factors other than Financial Aid. I love both schools, and believe that either will ultimately help me succeed in (international) finance and marketing (my intended majors). Please tell me which one you think is the better choice overall and why.

^ that “someone” is misinformed…don’t get me wrong though, Wharton’s marketing classes are amazing…but they are truly world renowned for their finance major

@BrownPennLover - I read about that on a thread about a year ago… hah. Anyway, I was looking up rankings for my own curiosity and came across this:

Wharton is higher ranked than NYU for Marketing.

And, of course, Wharton is known for its finance, but since this person is interested in both, it’s good to point out the rankings for marketing.

It looks like Wharton is the best for both Marketing and Finance. Does Stern’s prime location give it any merit? Could that be used to argue for it? Or is Philadelphia “good enough”? I am speaking in terms of internships, of course.

You can’t go wrong with Wharton. Although for finance Stern is right behind at number two; plus it does have the benefit of being located in New York. Wharton would cost less too

Stern is a one trick pony. It really doesn’t make any sense to go to Stern for anything other than finance, but if you got into Wharton, go to Wharton.

I have two friends at Wharton and one of them told me he got dinged at an interview, but nobody’s getting jobs these days.

“It really doesn’t make any sense to go to Stern for anything other than finance”
That is a lie. Stern is a great school overall. Finance may be it’s best department, but you can still get a solid education in any of the other majors.

I think one of the biggest reasons why people choose Stern over Wharton is because of the fact that NYU is in the heart of New York. There is a plethora of internships available, which undoubtedly gives you the advantage in job experience during your undergrad.

However, I think that in the long run, Wharton’s name will give you the upper hand. Many companies specifically recruit from certain universities. In addition, stats say that Wharton beats Stern in Finance (not sure about Marketing), but who knows how accurate stats are.

Very true. That was one of the only reasons I was considering Stern. Wharton is only 90 minutes away from New York City, so it’s not that bad. Plus, Wharton’s prestige makes up for any minor shortcomings it may have in comparison to Stern.
