stern

Yeah, you would. Remember, 1440 is the average. That means half of the people at Stern have lower than a 1440, and a 1400 is close enough to that.

And by "outline interests," maybe L2AB means the ability to make yourself sound interesting, by making your interests stand out somehow? Well, even if L2AB didn't mean that, it's a point to take into consideration. Like, even if your interests are common -- take reading, for example -- the right wording and emphasis can make it sound a lot more exciting than, "I like to read." (I wrote my essay on reading, haha. No exaggerations or anything... just creativity in the presentation of my interest. I wrote it like a fairy tale. Really.) You don't have to win something extraordinary... you just have to be able to stand out, without exaggerating or lying, but just by molding the truth.

Gah, I don't even know if I made sense or not.

that makes sense

What I mean is that you need a legit reason to want to study business... Saying that you want to make a ton of cash wont get you in. Say why you want to study subject X, even if it involves mentioned something you've read on your own or a particular subject you hope to research. etc

Last2:

I didn't find that the case at all. I suspect there are alot of us with just a vague notion and not much in the way of EC's in business that got into Stern. Just do your best, academically, with your extracurriculars (business or not), get decent test scores. Good Luck.

I think most high school seniors have an idea of what we want to study. Lots of kids aren't sure at all. There are a few kids that had there career in mind at at early age. The rest of us are still thinking. There will be alot of changes made by lots of students before we graduate.

I don't think NYU (Stern) or any other school expects you to have a large body of work in your chosen field. We are all still trying to decide what we want to do. I think what they want to see if involvement, good grades, and a challenging course load.

IMHO.

I have/had no business ec's. I am in stern. But my essay's reallt expressed my intersest. THen again i was a transfer so my way of applying would be diff from freshman's

3.7 1440 top 10%
good ec's, well written essays.

thats how you get in?

gpa: 3.85ishhhh (3.82-3.85) UW will have completed 11 AP's through all of high school
debate team captain
400+ hours of comm srv (200 of which are at hospital)
school newspaper editor
nhs

act: 31
sat: mid 13's, but retaking in june hoping for 1400+

if i get my sat up to 1400, based on the limited amount of information above am i looking at least competitive?

also, in terms of interest can you guys please just assess what i have to say about being a business major

i want to become a business major essentially because business is important in all types of careers especailly the type of career i want to get into (entertainment law) i figure a strong backgroud in business is necessary in the entertainment industry and also the law aspect is necessary (law school)

i mean there are obvious reasons why business majors became business majors...i don't wnat to become one for instant wealth, that just wont happen but i feel you havce a better chance for success if you know at least the basics of business principles, especially in the field that i want to go into...

anything else i should consider as to WHY to major in business in relation to my intended career path or WHY NOT TO in relation to my intended career path?

Before writing anything, look at the stern undergraduate bullatin, and see what courses of study interest you. If you want to stand out, write about the new 'certificate program' stern has called Entertainment Media and Technology (EMT) if you're interested in entertainment.

http://w4.stern.nyu.edu/uc/currentstudents/academics.cfm?doc_id=6318

isn't that new program extremely extremely extremely selective (like 6 kids only?) or am i thinking about something else?

Last2AcntsBanned....can you tell me more about this new program, i am reading about it online, but i want to hear about it from an NYU student....would this be considered the best there is for EMT studies in the country? would i graduate with a degress in this or just business or what?

no, its not selective its open to non stern studensts as well. Sratman i cant help you there, do some research. I dont know of any other EMT program aside from executive education classes, I know even MBA programs dont offer things like this, its not a major btw, only a certificate program.

ya i read it was a specialization so i'd have to choose a major within stern and also another specialization.

do you know anything about the minor in producing that tisch offers in conjunction with stern? do you have to apply to tisch also or just apply for the minor
