Hi. I am currently a junior on the west coast who really wants to go to Stern. I want to go to the new program, that I don't know the name of, that is in Stern. It's the program that they spend the first year in New York, then London then back to New York then Shanghai then back to New York. I heard it's a combination of Business, Economics, and Political Science.
I am really interested in it. The high school I go to is called IHS, international high school. During the four years, we learn all about the world and the literature, history, religion etc., behind the countries and the world. It is a full IB school, or at least I am pursuing the full IB, and I am currently learning three languages, french, spanish and english, hopefully, I will soon be adding a fourth language, Japanese. Anyway, I was wondering if I was on the right track. I am involved in sports outside of school, soccer and tennis, I am captain of both teams. Then I am also involved in leadership, where right now I am a representative of IHS for my school's branch and I am class president at my school. Next year I am going to try to be class president again, and then I am going to try to be Vice-President for IHS for my branch. I am also involved with National Honor Society where I hope to be president next year. The last thing I am really involved in is community service. I am going to start a program in my city that helps Latino minorities with their studies if they are having troubles because of language barriers or family problems if they just moved here from another country. I have good reasons for doing this because a) I am a latino and I know what it's like and b) I have helped students like this one on one and think it would just be better if we had an organized setting or group.
My unweighed GPA is around 3.8 and I am not sure what my SAT scores will be. I took a practice one last year with out really knowing what was going on, and scored a 1610. I know it's not good, but hopefully I can improve.
Please let me know what my chances are. The program looks so amazing that I can't stand not thinking about it. The idea of living in New York and living all over the world working on my studies sounds absolutely amazing, but on the other side, I heard they are only taking about 50 people this year. :( so i don't know what's going to happen to me. Please let me know.

i wrote way too much, didn’t I…

Does anyone have any suggestions or anything?
Is it even true that they are just taking about 50 candidates?

^ Where did you hear that number?

i heard it on the facebook page. is it not true? please lord, tell me it’s not true.

dying4ivy, what do you think my chances are?

anyone!?!? i really wanna know!

You didn’t post any stats. The average GPA of Sternie’s is about 3.6, average SAT scores 700 - 750.

oh no, that’s not what i meant by i really wanna know. I wasn’t talking about my chances, i was wondering if that number is true. the fact that they are only taking about 50 people for this program.

I’d say the 50 person size is about right. I think they wanted 25-50 people in the first class. I was asked if I wanted to apply, but the program doesn’t interest me. I don’t think the number 50 is a hard and fast number. They are looking for interested students who would like the program. I really didn’t get the impression that there was hordes of students applying, and that alot were turned down.

what were your stats?

That doesn’t make much sense… the website clearly states that class of '13 is the first year the program is offered; how could anyone have applied/gotten turned down?

^^ haha. i didn’t realize that. ha
does it say if it’s going to be highly selective, would I have a chance?

technically everything at Stern is highly selective compared to the other NYU schools

Sorry to burst your bubble the World Studies track was introduced to the class of 2011 for their sophmore year.
