Stern's International Prestige

Hi, I was admitted to Stern as a fresh. transfer. I'm just wondering how much prestige/name/marketability of NYU Stern holds in foreign countries...esp. in East Asia. I'm interested in landing a job in China, Japan, or Korea after graduation....before going to get MBA. BUT...I heard (from my family friends and whatnot) that the only schools that the companies know in Korea are the ivies, Stanford, and UC Berkeley. Is that true? How does the name NYU Stern stack up against the other top schools when trying to land a job in East Asia?? I would really like to know because it could determine whether I do transfer or stay. Thank you for all the info.

Employers would have heard of it; farmers however - would not.

HAHHAAH this is the funniest thread i've read in a long time!
very concise and true. id second that.

All they know in Korea is Harvard
That's it.

Like "love story in Harvard" ....

merumerume..haha i partially agree with you...but..see this only 0~5 korean people go to harvard...
also for nyu..its elected as most popular school for korean...while harvard being second probably just because it so hard to get in...

and MIT. Seriously...."What's Yale?" (my cousin goes to Yale BTW)
Actually if you go in the middle of nowhere in Korea they won't even know Harvard. All they would know there is their local state university and Seoul National U.

Oh crap....what's the most popular major for Korean people at NYU? Biomed Engineering/Premed???LOL:D

I'm asking because NYU's my top choice and my intended major is FINANCE at STERN. And if at all possible I'd like to hide from Koreans because they look down on business majors....."You want to do business? You must be stupid." Then they get insulted when I say "You're only majoring in engineering because you can't communicate in English."

Truthat, u mind posting your stats?

sure...

Fresh. transfer at USC
3.8-3.9 GPA, 60 credits
1480 SAT

NYU Stern, way too much prestiege in asian markets. That is one place that NYU is definitely known for being recruited from.

i'm sorry but i have to say
usc has far more prestiege than nyu in east asia...
especially China, jap and koera and Hong kong

yess.. i'd have to agree that the schools people in korea know about are the ivy's, stanford, mit, berkeley, and you cant forget the OOOK LAH (ucla) :]

hahahaha Uk-la lmao...my parents, even though not korean said the same exact thing.
