So, I got into both universities, however, I haven’t made my mind yet and time is running out. I want to major in Bio medical engineering. I know according to the statistics, Rutgers seems better in engineering, but I heard Stevens is one of the pioneer Engineering schools, even though their ranking does not seem so. So, what do you guys think? I haven not received any scholarships from both yet, and since I’m an international student, I will have to end up paying the full price. So which school I should go for?
I think Rutgers may be a bit better, but Stevens is also very good and has a great campus. Stevens is also private and smaller than Rutgers so there are some perks that come along with that. Good luck wherever you go.
May 2015 issue of Money magazine listed schools with the highest 20 year ROI (highest earning graduates according to PayScale.com data). Stevens Institute of Technology came in 3rd behind Harvey Mudd and Calif Institute of Technology. The rest of the list was Colorado School of Mines (in-state tuition), Babson, Stanford, MIT, Ga Tech, Princeton, and Colorado School of Mines (out of state tuition).
Net price at each school for you? Amount of debt you need at each school?
High ROI on Payscale rankings is typically found at schools that are heavy with engineering majors and do not have lots of students in majors leading to lower pay jobs like biology, or which are heavily recruited by Wall Street and elite consulting firms.
Stevens is more selective, its accepted students have higher SAT/ACT/high school GPAs, its curriculum has more credits and is more in depth, and it’s more respected in the engineering world than Rutgers. The third highest starting salaries and ROI on tuition of Stevens graduates attests to the respect and value that the marketplace accords Stevens graduates. Rutgers ranks in the 150s in the Payscale survey.
