Hey guys, I would really appreciate anyone's input as I have no one else to ask.

I currently go to Drexel University and planning on a Junior Transfer.

I know the deadlines are due in March and some schools even have a Feb 1st deadline (I will be working full time on these applications since I am late in the game).

Since I really don't have much time to waste, as experienced CC users, what schools would I really have a shot at? (~5-6)

Major: Chemical Engineering
College GPA: 3.74
In the Honors college, been on dean's list since '08 and Tau Beta Pi member
Founder of Drexel Model United Nations organization
Vice President of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (Drexel chapter)
Doing research with nanoparticle applications for wound healing
Did a 6 month internship designing spinal implants at a biomedical firm

I am also confident that I will get good recommendation letters.

Now, 3 schools that come to mind are Penn, Cornell and UT Austin. Do I have a shot at those? Any other schools that I can apply to and have a decent chance of getting accepted?

Drexel just isn’t for me. Don’t really like the atmosphere here. Also, Drexel doesn’t want to give me any type of aid so if in all cases, I’m not getting aid I’d rather go to a better school.

Didn’t do so well in high school. My GPA was around 3.2 and a 1740 on the SAT. I am retaking the ACT for my Penn and Cornell application on the 15th of February (UT and UM don’t require SAT/ACT scores).

Medical school won’t care what university you went to. Only GPA and MCAT matter. A 3.9 from drexel is still much better than a 3.2-3.3 from penn or cornell.

Anyway you have a good chance at UT austin. A bit tough for penn and cornell.

I agree with bottlecap. If you’re going to med school don’t even bother with transferring unless it’s to transfer down to save money. No one will care where you went for undergrad and med school is expensive.

I also agree with bottlecap’s chances assessment.

There are many other schools you have a great chance at. If you are instate for any of the top state schools that seems like a great choice.

Thanks a lot for your input guys, really appreciate it.

Well med school isn’t 100% definite - hence majoring in ChemE in the first place.

I’m a PA resident which is why I’m applying to Penn and trying out my chances. Also, since Drexel is right next door, they ‘might’ be more familiar with the whole Drexel->Penn transfer? (Quite a few transfer each year).

About the selection of schools, I heard Cornell had like a 20% acceptance rate but that might not be true.

Aside from UT, do I have a shot at U-M or maybe if anyone has any recommendations to what schools I have a decent chance at?

I’m not sure about that Cornell acceptance rate. Their rate is inflated by guaranteed transfers and some business about part of Cornell( like hospitality or something) having transfer agreements.

I dont know. Just apply and see what happens.

Well, i’m not really an experienced CC user (first post here, ) so I can’t really chance you but just to fill in the numbers to NotAClue’s response if this could be of any help to your chancing…heres what I know:
