Sticky Situation

Like many of you, I took the Math IIC today.

-Last night I was studying, of course, but then a lot of stuff went down. My parents were arguing for a good two hours about how we have no money, how we're going to lose the house in a year since the loan will be maxed, how they should've gotten divorced, etc.

-To add to this, my only form of prep was Sparknotes, and when I tried to take a practice test, Barnes and Noble refused to load/gave an error. Basically, I had 0 practice going into the test.

-When I woke up, the arguing continued.

I was late [but still got to take] my Math IIC.

Anyway... I skipped around 20 questions.

And at this point, I'm beyond speechless.

I'm taking the SAT I in November. (No more chances at the SAT II.) I'm not ED'ing anywhere.

Should I cancel.... write about what happened? I was considering the latter, but then I realized colleges don't want kids with messed up families... so I -give up.

Yeah I skipped 12 questions and thought it was quite hard.
I think canceling may be a decent option, but then again you'll still get a decent score even with that many omitted, since the Math II's curve is good
I hope your family issues get resolved :)
Best of luck

Take it in December? Scores should be there for mid January deadlines.

You could cancel, or you could retake in December since you're not going early decision (unless there's a conflict with the December test date). I'm sorry about what happened...SATs are stressful enough as it is.

take it in december.

Will I have to send these scores in via the Collegeboard's "Send your score to 4 places" service?

Not that I'm aware. I would cancel them by sending the letter in to Collegeboard ASAP.

wow from what I've read math 2 seemed hella hard today...if I were you, I'd keep that test because it has a nice scale and you could still get above a 700 even with 20 skips. If you take sat1 nov, you could still take sat2s in dec and still be able to make it for regular decision. And I'm sorry about the thing with your parents, hope things work out O_o. Also I don't think writing to the colleges about this would help much because they got hundreds of applications to read a day.

I just took the sat1s today and I feel like I bombed it as well, so I'm needa retake it in Dec as well

I highly doubt 20 skips would constitute a 700, that's basically 2/5 of the test

yeah 20 skips is like 660, but on a more generous curve could approach 700

Where are you applying? Have you taken other subject tests? BTW check SAT website for specifics about cancelling. I think you have until Weds. (not positive).

@ the people who say to cancel, don't the colleges only see your top score in the subject test when they're doing admissions?

I already took 3 other subject tests, I did bad on one of them, however. That's why I was taking the Math IIC to get a higher score.

They will see all scores but only consider your highest ones.

I'd be willing to bet that your lack of preparation is much more to blame than your family's fighting; the latter sounds more like a poor excuse.

Nevertheless, I wish the best to you and your family. :]
