I'm an incoming freshman and I will be living in a single dorm next year at dobie. This is largely because I am completely incapable of sleeping past 7:30, not matter how hard I try (which means I need to go to bed at 11 or 12 in order to be functional - yes even on weekends), and that doesn't seem to be an easy to find shared characteristic with any potential roommates I've looked at. I've had a roommate almost every summer since middle school for various camps, and it's always been a complete disaster when they stay up until 2 in the morning. I'm also pretty much going to college for free because of my dad's military service, which means that my college fund will be used exclusively for housing and whatnot, so the extra cost will still be less than what we were initially expecting to pay.

I'm worried though that despite this, having my own room at a school where this isn't common for freshmen will come associated with a negative stigma of being anti-social and snobby. Is that the case, or will people just not care? I definitely recognize that it may limit my social interaction at the dorm itself, but if people I meet from classes don't care, I think that will make up for it.

lol you using hazlewood as well? but yeah your situation is a little weird but people wont care, j just get involved and try not to get too lonely

Yeah, I don’t think people will judge you, but they may ask why and it may be awkward you know? Especially at a huge school at UT where a lot of people go just for the college feel and tradition. You may like regret it in the long run you know? But you know yourself and how you perform so do what you gotta do :)

I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you, but you should keep in mind that around exam times and times during which you will have lots of homework and studying to do you will may find it hard to go to bed at 11pm or 12am.

If anything they’d probably be jealous. A lot of people, myself included, yearn for single room living. It’s really only freshman excited about meeting a random person for a roommate and becoming BFFLs.

how did you get oncampus single housing?
does it just cost more?

and THAT IS EVEN BETTER
you can bring friends back without having to worry about a roommate

i dont think anyone will hate you…or even think anything
don’t worry about it man

it’s just like having your own apartment…why would anyone dislike you for choosing to live alone because your sleep habits are very important to your life?
