A bit of an overview (international applicant btw):
- year 10 and 11 75% A/A*s
- SAT 1560
- year 12 (junior year) currently scoring 39/42 in the IBDP with 4 higher levels (maths, physics, chemistry, economics) [all 7/7]
- founder and president of the schools chess club, play/learn chess for about 20hrs/week, school prefect, tutor friends in maths, regularly volunteer, attending a programming course during the coming summer, currently developing a few iOS applications, etc.
Now, here is the deal breaker
In year 11 (the year we took our IGCSEs), I was insanely depressed and could barely do anything. Now, the problem with this was that I ended up getting a C in my further maths exam (took the regular one a year early) but even worse a D on my school report [im not sure what these are equivalent to in the US]. Would something like this literally result in my application being thrown out of the window at institutions like MIT and Stanford? Would the fact that I am currently scoring 7/7 in a much harder maths course make up for it or is it just done for considering the competition for international applications?
I know these ‘chance’ threads are really boring and all and have tried not to write one but yet here I am… Any responses would be appreciated
