Still can't get over the depression

Just kidding :)

yea, they accepted me off the waitlist.

ugh if you guys aren't getting in with those scores, looks like i'll have no chance next year

get over it. It's hard when you are in this situation right now, cause college seems like the biggest reason u are alive. I had one rejection when i was applying to colleges too, it was hard. But, anybody in college will tell u college is overrated, ain't worth the nightmares and all, look at the large picture here. Trust me, college name doesn't matter as much as you think it does. I can't believe now that I actually felt so bad about getting rejected from that one school.

It's disappointing, even depressing, to not be accepted, but lots of well-qualified students didn't get accepted. It's not necessarily a comment that you're not good enough--there were just too many good students applying. That's true every year, and it was true this year.

On nearly every campus there are people who start their freshmen year feeling disappointed because they are enrolling at a second or third (or even lower) choice. Many of them will come to find many things about their institution to love. The funny thing is, on that same campus will be students who feel grateful to be there, it's their dream school.

I hope, if you end up at Penn State, that you will come to love it. If not, I hope you will be able to successfully transfer to Umich or somewhere else. If you were good enough to get in a good program there, you must have a lot going for you, MightyNick. Too much to let yourself get bogged down, emotionally, in the Michigan waitlist decision.

MightyNick, You will probably really like Penn State when you get there, but if not keep planning. If you love UMich, how about a UC?? They are large, urban (Cal, UCLA) and take lots of transfers junior year. Or talk to a counselor at UMich about what they want in transfer students and go for it . . .

Argh, what a slap in the face.

I got a letter in the mail today from the president's office saying "I know you are bummed about not getting in to UM, but here's the number for UM-Dearborn! They want you to apply there!"

I'm guessing i'm not getting in off the waitlist.

go to UM dearborn then transfer to UM Ann Arbor lol...both ways you can still say you're going to the University of Michigan and all your credits will transfer

Yeah... drive 40 minutes from my house each day to go to a communter school, don't get any college experience, don't have any options besides going through this application angst again in 2 years, and if I don't get a 3.5+, be in a worse situation in 2 years than I am currently amongst admissions officers. Be at a place where it's all students from Michigan, not meeting anyone really unique. I'll pass.

plus, after my failed internship search and 50% of the juniors in my major at michigan not getting internships, i can say michigan degree isn't worth that much.

They're already releasing waitlist decisions?

NYao...you don't suppose that your not getting an internship has more to do with you than it does with Michigan...

Yeah, Wolves...S. got the lame U-M Dearborn letter today as well. He's feeling real special now...LOL!! As if this whole experience wasn't bad enough, how about H. and I receiving an e-mail dated April 19th from a fellow LS&A alum, a Regional Director of Development for the University, thanking us for our past support and now asking us for more money!! I swear, you just can't make this stuff up...totally absurd...especially when it's sent out during final decisions month. Well, you can imagine our response. The admissions office may want to give their solicitors the long list of their rejects every year so they can cross-reference the names. Hmmm...rather poor taste contacting alums for a hand-out after double legacy S. JUST got the axe?? Sorry folks, this family's checkbook is officially closed.

So does that mean you only support the university if they accept your child? I thought giving was supposed to be selfless act. Plus, I think Michigan's move toward becoming more selective is a good thing, so I'd support them even more, but that's just my POV. Also, umichfreak, your story is one to inspire us all. Either you guys are missing the importance of his/her post, or you just don't care, but guys, MICHIGAN TOOK SOMEONE OFF THE WAITLIST!!! Not only that, but that person just happens to be on CC, meaning there are probably quite a few more out there like him/her. Not only does this mean that waitlisted students in the future actually have something to hope for, but it means we didn't TERRIBLY OVER-ENROLL!!!!!! YAAAAAYY!! Way to get your people in line, hoedown, you guys did it! (I admit I had my doubts).

Wow. Real professional. Big surprise he didn't land an internship. Can we seriously just kick him off this forum for posts like that one?

You don't want to take me on right now, Sir Chibears...Say, other than tuition to pay for your sorry arrogant , how much cash has YOUR family forked over to the U as an act of selflessness?? Reject my kid after years and years of receiving our monetary support? You're ded right we're all through with that crap. Welcome to the real world. Wow, what a moron.

Yeah, I got rejected from northwestern and that was my dream school, still is. I understood why I got rejected though. My essays were crappy, I mean really crappy and cheesy with retarted grammar mistakes and my sats were 140 pts lower. So upcoming seniors, focus on your essays. I worked harder on my other ones and that made a world of a difference.

GoBlue, are you sure he didn't get in? Check wolverineaccess, that's where I found out.

I hoped that changed the subject!lol.

My family didn't go to college, so they're not supporting any universities right now, but after seeing what a great education Michigan is giving me, they might. I'm still not quite sure how wanting to give toward a great university's mission out of support for the great education they're providing makes me a "moron" whereas REAL people only give so they can get something in return. I'd agree much of the real world doesn't hold such ideals, but I'm not sure my intelligence is diminished if I hold them. Michigan should and clearly does accept the best students who apply, and taking bribes from legacies sounds pretty corrupt to me. Also, would anyone like to pick this thread up back to the level it's fallen from? My work is clearly insufficient.
