I'm waiting until August 5th to order my laptop because that's the supposed date when the new Lenovo ThinkPads (I'm looking at the X200) will be available for order. Of course, I need it by the time I move in, which is August 23.

The question is, am I pushing it by ordering this late? It gives about two weeks for it to arrive, so I'm hoping that's enough time.

waiting for the t400 here too. i have a place to ship it to, just annoying to not be "connected" to all my other friends who are moving to other colleges as well during the first few weeks of school :(

If you're getting a pre-packaged one, that should be okay. If you're customizing it, then you're probably pushing it. I think 3 weeks is normal.

What deals does Berkeley give for laptops? Any local stores that might give deals to Cal students?

If you go to the Lenovo website through TSW there are really good discounts on everything. Also, Lenovo already has pretty good discounts, because they're clearing out all their old stuff. I got a T61p with top of the line everything for about $2100, which is a pretty good deal (they would normally be in the $3000+ neighborhood). I would consider doing this if you don't need to have a T500, because you'll probably be paying at least $1000 more for a T500 with a similar configuration...and the leap in tech probably won't be enough to justify that, at least not for poor people like me :-D

Somebody happened to find what looks like the pricing and configuration on the new ThinkPads.
Thought I'd give you guys waiting for them the heads up.
