My son is looking for a liberal arts school that has an urban setting. New York is probably his first choice in terms of accessibility. (maybe Boston, Philly.....) He is interested in doing something with business and the music entertainment/production industry. He is a singer/songwriter and has produced his own music. He has sold his product on iTunes, pure volume and the like. He does not want to concentrate his studies in the performing arts. He does, however want to be somewhere that has a good music vibe or easy access to that. He goes to a private school that teaches in the Quaker tradition and loves the environment there. Any ideas for colleges or universities that fit this bill?

Has he checked out Oberlin? With the associated music conservatory, this is a school that attracts the musically-inclined in droves. The admin told us there is a music performance on campus every night of the school year, and S’s best friend says the question isn’t ‘do you play/perform’ but rather, ‘what do you play/perform.’

What are his stats? In NYC, I’d say NYU (which has excellent programs in both music and business) or maybe Fordham (which is a Jesuit school with a good business program - not sure about music department). In Boston maybe BU or Northeastern (he may like the coop program) or if he wants something smaller maybe Bentley or Babson (which are primarily buisness schools). Oberlin is great for music but I don’t think they have a business program (but I’m not positive about that).
