Sugar Coma, there's such a thing as diplomacy and compassion. As I said in my post, whether it's true or not that those who haven't heard are likely to be rejected, it isn't necessary to post things such as:

"ANYONE WHO HASNT GOTTEN A DECISION YET = REJECTED.

sheesh"

to get your point across. When you've been accepted and someone else hasn't, you should take the high road and be nice, not snarky and condescending. Firewalker needs to lose that attitude before he/she comes to NYU or he/she is not going to be very happy here.

i thought in your post you just called him a prick? or was that someone else? that post is gone now.

That wasn't me. And whoever wrote that has probably now been banned.

haha. anyway, sometimes being blunt and without tact is a good thing. there are people like yourself who feel the need to show compassion and sympathy, and there are others who feel the need to say what they really think the situation is, even if it's bad. everyone is their own moth to their own light. people hear what they want to hear and see what they want to see. some people might have read fire's comments and it may have made them get up and finish those other apps, giving them more time which may have a better result in the future, especially if they do get a rejection from nyu. other people may read your compassionate comments and use it to simply do nothing and keep hoping, only to be rushed at the last hurdle and potentially trip, considering they get rejected. some people might read fire's comments and get in, and god, how sweet would that feel?

i think if someone has good grounds to state their point, no matter how blunt it is, they should.

but i respect your compassion and sympathy.

like i say, each is their own moth to their own light.

"some people might read fire's comments and get in, and god, how sweet would that feel?"

Pretty sweet, I can tell you. 'Cos that's exactly what happened to me.

I completely agree. However, as someone else stated, there are times for bluntness and honesty as well. This is one of them; if people who haven't received a decision from NYU yet haven't sent out their other apps, they are severely putting themselves at risk. Beating around the bush and giving what is pretty much false hope at this point just harms the people in question, not helps them.

Granted, firewalker could have phrased his/her comments without the ending "sheesh!" but it's often difficult to get an important point across on message boards.

...or not saying demeaning phrases such as "screwing yourself over". A. It is an immature way of making a point, and B. It is rude.

Ok no more fighting, I just found out today (not that it was a surprise) that I was rejected.....These two months on the CC forum were actually fun!

sorry for you nacho, what were your stats?

International Student applied for Tisch's Dramatic Writing program, my life long ambition. I will admit to low stats, but my portfolio was awesome. I've been studying english since kindergarden at an american school in central mexico and yet the SAT was not an easy test to make. AND I GOT THE EXACT SAME SCORE ON TWO SITTINGS...(even when I spent the better part of a month studying instead of doing some school work: 1720. Then there was my low GPA, 3.5. My recommendations were great (I got to read them), but the numbers just were'nt up there. I knew it was going to be hard when I got my second test scores, but I guess I always had the hope my portfolio would make up for them....apparently not. I do not feel as if this were a defeat, and I am gearing up for better applications and hopefully a better SAT in january, because the film business is all about never giving up. I have given up on NYU though, although I really wanted to live up there instead of, well, LA for example (or Mexico City, no way!). But here I am, wish me luck, and good luck on those four years in NYU!

I really hated reading "although your credentials were impressive, we were unable to....." on the rejection though, they say that to everyone!

dang. best of luck with your other schools!

That's really unethical of NYU to send the GSA/acceptance/rejection letters seperately. There was a mini scandal at MIT this year because the mail got messed up and the letters were sent in two different batches... people who applied to MIT were VERY mad about it.

why is it unethical?

I just don't think its respectful.

You pay 65 (or however many amount) to apply to college.. maybe your dream college is NYU. You wait at the mail box... the mail never comes.. some people have been already accepted.. you hope you hope.. then you get a rejection letter.

College admissions is such a highly stressful process that in my opinion, colleges should work to make it as less stressful as possible. MIT has done a GREAT job with this - they even have an MIT admissions blog, and after the mailing incident this year the Dean of Admissions apologized for the error.

Why can't other colleges be like that?

Why? Why? Why?
