Still no decision!

My DD applied to UMass and it says online that they processed her application on Jan 3rd. As of today, it is still "under review". All of her friends have heard from UMass, and she's been accepted at 10 other schools. We really need to make a decision. Do you think that there's some hold-up or are they still notifying people. It seems that her application is complete, based on what we're seeing online. Should she contact admissions?

I would contact them, its getting pretty late for decisions to still be being made.

My S is in the same boat - post if you get some clarification!

Someone in the “Acceptance Thread” said they called UMass and were told that all letters would be mailed out by Friday, April 8. It’s gotta come soon… right? I would call them.

Well, she finally received her acceptance letter but no word on Financial aid. It says on line that financial aid awards will be sent out in June. How do we make a decision for May if there’s no indication if she’ll be receiving any scholarships?!! So frustrating.

^^^ Are you hoping for merit aid?

Beyond the Adams scholarship (free tuition, worth $1714/year, based on MCAS scores), UMass does not seem to be incredibly generous with merit aid. The best you can reasonably hope for (based on what my S got) is a $1K or $2K Dean’s scholarship, unless your D is really an exceptional student.

If that $1K or $2K is critical to your decision, I’d contact them and tell them you need to know by the end of April.

If you are hoping for need-based FA, I have no idea, we didn’t qualify for any at UMass.

IIRC our S received his financial “aid” letter about a week after the acceptance package.

I’m assuming that you are in-state because of your username…or is that incorrect?

If you are in-state, does your D have the Adams scholarship or the Koplik certificate?

Do you know what your EFC is and how it compares to the costs at UMASS? I’ve been under the impression that most aid is need-based…I have read posts on these boards about other scholarships but I don’t know if those were mostly or all being offered to OOS students.
