Hey guys. There is another thread in the Duke forum about someone who was able to see the decisions page using their Cornell or Brown ID or something like that, so I wonder if the emails only went to those who applied to Cornell and/or Brown, since it seems that the systems may somehow be interconnected. Did those who got one of these emails apply to Cornell/Brown? I really don’t think they would have been selective in who they sent it to because then they might as well have sent out the decisions then. At least that’s what I’m hoping…

The guy who posted the e-mail could’ve just seen the Duke application decision page, realized it’s March 29th, and then edited Brown’s to fit. I highly doubt Duke would sent selective e-mails if they aren’t likely letter things or invitations to specific events.

There’s no way the entire middle paragraphs of emails sent by two different colleges would be the exact same. I call shenanigans.

Also, Brown’s email was sent to all applicants, meaning that it didn’t indicate anything about one’s chances of admission. If Duke really sent out a virtually identical email, then surely it would have the same significance as Brown’s (i.e. none).

i think the whole thing is someone who is very nervous is spreading rumours like this. taking the advantage of the situation.

i dont think its a rumor though… seems too real.

I applied to Brown and Duke and didn’t get Duke’s email. I got Brown’s a couple weeks ago, though.

Yeah, same here. I got Brown’s but not Duke’s.
To those who received Duke’s email- do you have your emails on CC? If it is a hoax, (and a very elaborate one at that. Who the hell has time?) the person who spread the rumor might have gotten your emails from here.

I just got home and checked my D’s e-mail and I was mistaken it was from Brown not Duke - sorry

Well since it seems like 99% of people did not get this email, I guess I’m not going to worry about it.

mtcomposer91: The letter truly is a major rip-off of the Brown letter (D rec’d that on 2/16), although the Brown letter talks about reading apps in the future tense. The Duke letter is also very poorly written. The 2nd sentence is terribly worded and the 2nd to last sentence has a major typo in it. If the person who posted this retyped it, that could explain the typos. Was the letter you rec’d from Duke identical - with the same typos?

It’ll probably be on time. I’ve heard April 1st? I don’t know, but I don’t think it’ll be after that date since they’ve already announced/set the Blue Devil Days to kids who got in ED, and those are more for RD kids then ED

Are you guys even reading the other threads on the forum? Emails on Thursday, Decision on Monday at 6 PM.

lol epic fail rk33

I simply copy-pasted the letter my friend received from Duke. Since I was deferred and have been waiting for 7 months, she sent me the letter, I didn’t receive it. I was shocked when someone here saw that it was almost identical to the Brown email I actually got. So I’m on the same boat as you guys are, I didn’t believe my friend when she told me she got this email bc no one else seemed to hear of it. The email was sent to her by Undergrad-admissions@duke.edu. FYI, she isn’t crazy and wouldn’t make the email up. I would be happy to take a screenshot of the email if anyone wants it.

I definitely call shenanigans on this one. Almost no one got the email, it’s just like Brown’s, and, as pointed out, there are typos and poor word choices. This is quite a hilarious prank, though all of our freaked out reactions really show how overly worried we are!

Epic fail how? For pointing out that they’re obviously not gonna announce decisions after the program that’s meant for people who applied RD has already started? Uhh sure ok…

@rk33

i believe his use of “epic fail” was to point out how you didn’t know that decisions were coming out monday, rather than april 1st.

However, I’m no mind reader

Take a chill pill rk33

lolol collegeA is right! chillax manggg
