I submitted my housing application on June 3 at Housing Services - Applications & Contracts, right at the "Applications&Contracts Portals" links. I applied for campus housing, my first option being the Plaza.

I am a transfer student, and submitted it right after I submitted my Statement of Intent to Register. However, the site still saying that I "currently do not have a housing offer". Have all of you who applied for housing already received offers? Should I be looking for off-campus housing now?

Yeah, I got my housing offer almost a month ago. You should call the housing department because the apartments are given out based on availability, so someone would have to leave their unit for you to get it. Since I called though, they set me up with something as soon as they could. Which apartment complex did you apply for? I’m living in Falkirk. If anyone knows about it, I’d love some info.

I put the Plaza and Bannockburn Village on my housing preferences. I am going to try and contact Housing Services to try and see their availability since I am tired of waiting to see if a Housing Offer simply pops up on my dashboard.

I’m also transferring this fall. I submitted the application in April, but I haven’t received any offers. I’m gonna start looking for off-campus housing this week.

@suoulfrepus: Even if the housing department offers you a housing arrangement, it will most likely be off-campus because transfer students are usually assigned to off-campus housing at the UV Towers. Will you be looking houses or apartments?

I’m just looking for a cheap room to rent.

If you have a car, look around craigslist for rooms. There are plenty of choices! You’re gonna have to hope you have good house mates though.

I was recently looking for a house mate because someone flaked on us -__- but yeah, the room I was trying to rent out was $400 + utilities. So… I’m sure you can find a deal somewhere. I saw some rooms that are close to campus too if you don’t/can’t drive. The prices weren’t bad either.

Anyway, for people deciding between living in school owned apartments and renting a room in a house… consider what I’m about to say…

Honestly, school owned apartments are really overpriced. Yeah… you get our own room, restroom, utilities are paid for, and it’s close to school… for what? like $800-$1000. The master bedroom in my house has a huge walk in closet, huge bathroom (double sink, jacuzzi, shower stall), and is like triple or quadruple the size of the dorm/apt rooms for $600ish including utilities and all.

I mean, if you do the math… think of this way. Let’s assume sterling is $800. You find a place to live a little further (3-5 miles away from UCR) for $400 OR split a room with a friend in a house for $300 close by. You can buy/lease a regular car and pay $300-$400 a month (just an estimation). But, of course, you’re going to have to consider insurance and gas… but if your parents are willing to pay for insurance or something… then it could actually be better than living in a school owned apartment. I mean… at the very least you’ll be getting a car out of it. If this is a possible option (meaning your parents are willing to/can do this for you), I would suggest you talk to them about it. Owning a car is a big responsibility, and I could see why this wouldn’t be an option for a lot of people… but I just think this is so much more reasonable than paying $800 for rent ):
