STILL NO WORD ABOUT INTERVIEW! aah! =(

I live in SoCal ..I'm pretty sure I have alumni around here. but i haven't been notified by anyone for an interview yet!

Do they only select top students for alumni interviews?

When do interviews last until? I mean, is there still a lot of time left for me to be contacted for one?

Penn, like every other top school has seen incredible increases in applications as a result of our generation, or the second wave of the baby boom generation, coming of age. In some cases not everyone can get an interview because interviewers are just streached too thin. Either way, not having had an interview will no reflect poorly on your application so don’t worry!

I believe that interviews last until sometime before mid-March (minimum of 2-3 weeks before the day of decisions).

No, not at all. It is more of a function of the availability of an alumnus in your geographical area.

I too have not yet been contacted for an interview but there is absolutely no need to concern yourself. They truly do not have much of an effect on one’s candidacy (if any at all).

Interviews are random, even if you have a lot of alumni. Dont sweat it, my friend applied Wharton ED and she got in without an interview. So many people don’t that it doesn’t matter

i wish they asked more alum to help interview

i’d gladly interview you

lol heres an interesting story tho, regarding what applicants get interviewed for top schools. it might be just a coincidence, but its interesting to read:

I applied to Cornell ED just last fall. There weren’t too many applicants in my area (or any area) seeing as it was ED, which has fewer applicants overall. If there were any alumni in the area, it shouldn’t have been too much of an issue for me to get an interview NOTE: I was a very borderline applicant.

Now its RD season, and there are plenty of ppl in the area applying for Cornell and other top schools. Now with more applicants, the interviewers should be “stretched thin” more so than before. Strangely, my friend (who’s a legacy) and others get called up for an interview.

So that’s weird huh? More applicants, but somehow more interview opportunities are available?

But even tho these RD guys were able to get offered interviews, I, an ED applicant, was not. Oh yeah, I was rejected btw.

I received my interview… I responded and did not receive a reply back yet. I’m not even interested in doing the interview, but meh… No chance I’d reject it.

I’m from SOCAL also… No interview request.

everyone in my year who applied to penn got an interview beside me and another guy. and the two of us are both involved in lots of ec’s, have solid grades (his are slightly above mines) and spent hours on our apps… we’re very worried here

If it’s true the interview only matters for borderline candidates (which is conjecture, not fact), wouldn’t one think they would give interviews more to applicants on the fence rather than solid shoo-ins?

I think I’d fit into that “borderline applicant” category, which is why I’m really really wanting to do an interview lol

I found out by asking the UPenn Undergraduate Admissions Office that only 50%ish get interview offers.

don’t worry about it. I still haven’t been contacted, but am from the Philadelphia area, have top stats, and have a parent who is an alum.

I’m in a similar situation, living in Atlanta and not having been contacted for an interview. I’m applying to a program at Penn, however, that does usually ensure each applicant an interview, and I talked to the head of the program who said that they’re working on matching everyone applying for the program with alumni within the next week. So, I assume this means that not all interviews have been scheduled.

i haven’t gotten an interview yet either. infact, now that i think about it, penn is the only school i’m still waiting on for an interview. and other people from my school got theirs like three weeks ago so i have no clue why mine is taking so long. what do we do from here? call the school or just wait?

i tried calling the school, and they said that interviews aren’t guaranteed and that only your local alumni committee can schedule them for you.

Think of an interview as a way to learn more about the university. If you don’t get an interview, it won’t keep you out. They aren’t mandatory to the application itself.
