Still on the wait list?

I was just curious as to who actually went for the wait list. Where did you enroll if you are on the wait list and where are you going if you didn’t want to do the wait list? I"m still on the wait list and I’m enrolling at Johns Hopkins. But Brown is still my first choice by far.

I was waitlisted after applying ED. I'm holding out, but for now I'm Berkeley 2009. I really like Cal, but Brown has been my dream for so long that I'm not willing to give up until I'm required to do so.

I'm enrolled at Wash U, but also sitting on the Hopkins waitlist, in case you guys are wondering, Brown said it wont be untill friday or monday that they will know if they are even gonna go to the waitlist. So I wouldnt expect to hear anything before the 16th at the very earliest.

There's a kid at my school who's staying on the wait-list, even though he's going to Harvard and Harvard is his first choice. I definitely think he just wants to see if he can get in or not. Don't you hate people like that? I do. Oh, he also brought his Harvard acceptance letter to school to show everyone.

apparently Harvard mails you a certificate that you have been accepted i.e. something to hang on the refrigerator so people will know you were accepted even if you don't go.

And yeah, it's annoying, but at the same time, waitlisters have only about 1-2 days to reply, so when he says no, they'll turn around and take someone else really quickly.

what an ass lol

(kid with letter)

sending a certificate type thing isn't super unusual though, at least it is not restricted to super selective schools. I receieved a certificate from Bowdoin for my acceptance.

Yeah, I got one from Bowdoin too, and a nice, very personalized acceptance letter.

OO... I got one from Rutgers! WOOT.

eh, i'm going to a small private school in kentucky. i wont even bother naming the school, no one will know it. lol, but yeah, brown still lingers in my heart.

btw, the time is truly flying by quickly. that aids the pain, somewhat.

$ to wash u. waiting for brown. seems like every other day my classmates ask me if i got into brown yet. no--5% chance... and i haven't heard from them :( :)

You wont hear from them for a while, at the earliest mid-May--at least that's what Yale tells me.

Hey cheer up! We are never merely a "statistic". If you did something (unusual) to show your commitment after getting waitlisted, your chances ought to be better than average. :)

What "unusual" thing did you do leigh?

BTW- I thought the stats were much higher than 5% of those who responded. Someone should look into this.

I am staying on the Waitlist. Going to Wash U if I don't get in from the waitlist.
By unusual is often times means an Athletic, Academic or Extracurricular feat that honestly is very prestigious or amazing. You can say in a letter you are def. going to attend which does help, however a lot of kids do get a push from the unusual.
The 5% is the low end of how many kids they normally accept. They don't know how many they will end up accepting this time. I have heard theories that they may have overbooked their freshman class, but that is simply a theory at this time. Right now I am in contact with a coach and he "talked to someone rather high up in the admissions office" last night and they didn't know the accepted numbers yet.

Hm, well I graduated from high school in December so I didn't really have any new awards to send in. But I really wanted to get off the Cornell waitlist so I did something to show my passion and commitment instead. I told them in early April that I would give them 99 reasons why Cornell was a good fit for me and vice-versa. So everyday I would send them a short letter with the answers to my own questions "Why Cornell?" and "Why Leigh?". And so this whole project will go on for 50 days and I'm still in the midst of it. That's the basic idea, although in reality it's a bit more complicated. I only hope the adcom isn't annoyed by the load of letters they're getting. :p

Oh and I recently got a letter from them saying that if they aren't able to admit this time round I get a "preferred transfer acceptance" next year. I'm not sure whether what I did made a difference, but hey it's still good to know that I'm somewhat off the waitlist LOL.

my guidance counselor spoke with Brown today. They WILL be accepting students off the waitlist, but they dont know how many. They also said the absolute, absolute earliest they will tell kids is may 16th.

Thank goodness that they will be accepting students. That makes my day!!! I don't know if I will get in, but at least we get another evaluation. :)

thats somewhat of a relief for me...
