Still on the Waitlist...

So I've been first on the waitlist for CCJS100H since May. There's 25 seats in the class, all were filled before I registered, they didn't open any over the summer. I've been waiting to get in, and I'm starting to get concerned because I currently only have 12 credits and classes start in less than a week. I e-mailed the professor 3 weeks ago about this. He never answered me. I believe it's the right e-mail, it's the typical @crim.umd.edu and I found it on the Crim website in the profile on him. But yet I've heard on here that he's e-mailed his regular CCJS100 people 3 times already, so I don't know if he has some other one but I don't know where I would even find that.

The first lecture isn't until Sept. 12th due to Labor day (and the only difference between regular and H-version is the discussion, lectures are the same). The deadline to change classes is 2 days later. If none of the 25 people in this class drop it by then, I'm out of luck. That's why I e-mailed him, to see how strict the 25 enrollment is and if there's any chance I can still get in since I'm first on the waitlist. But yeah, no answer. I really need this class, especially for Honors credit. He teaches a different CCJS100 lecture on Wednesdays, so should I show up towards the end and try to talk to him in person after?

Show up before the class, see if he has time to talk to you - if not, ask if he can visit with you after the class. Then sit through it and talk to him. In the meantime, find a back up, register for it and go to that class. You can always drop it.

This is the email address Dr. Gaston used to contact his students

Arnett W. Gaston agaston@umd.edu

Thanks for the e-mail! I’m going to try that one. Don’t know why it’s listed as @crim.

As for a backup, I tried but I really couldn’t find one. I can’t sign up for any Honors seminars right now, it’s restricted for freshmen. I’m on the holdfile for one but I’m not counting on that working out.

Do you know where you are on the waitlist? If you don’t get a response by the time you get to campus, you should go to his office. Also, can’t you go ahead and schedule a “regular” section slot so you at least have the class scheduled; it would just be the discussion section (and add’l honors requirements) that you’re trying to get into.

I’m first on the waitlist. I can’t enroll in the regular section because it’s restricted to freshmen all summer :/

“The first lecture isn’t until Sept. 12th due to Labor day”

hahaha I forgot about that, damn. I think the fall semester started on a Monday last year no?

I miss CCJS100, fun class, I liked having one lecture a week. Dr. Gaston’s a reasonable guy, make sure you’re very respectful when talking to him about this issue and I’m sure he’ll be willing to make some accommodation for you if he can.

You should be fine. Since there are still openings in the “regular” sections, it means there are spaces in the lecture. Since you are first on the waitlist, that’s a good sign. Hopefully there will be at least one person who drops the class so that it will be automatic…just don’t forget to do the daily checkin for the waitlist.

Well, there’s like 15-30 people on the hold file for every one of the lecture sections. So I think they’ll take any open spots once they take the freshman restriction back off. I’m hoping someone drops the class but since it’s only 25 people I’m worried.

Yep, both fall and spring started on a Monday last year.

I kinda like that actually, when it starts in the middle of the week it throws me off, as does Labor Day (right when you start getting into the school groove you get hit with a three day weekend and fall back into summer mode).
