Still out here waiting for the Appointment...

I posted parts of this earlier on another thread (Parents' Forum), but I knew at the time that I should've posted here - sorry for the double posts - I just wanted y'all to know that all of us who were in this spot last year remember how it was. We're rootin' for ya - so hang in there! Hoping for the best for all of you!

My heart goes out to everyone waiting.

As a parent, you so much want your child's dreams to come true. I was always worried that something unforeseen would happen (like his file get stuck under the top of the desk drawer!). You kids have worked so hard for so long, and you don't want all of those sacrifices to be in vain (i.e. staying in to do schoolwork when everyone else was outside playing!).

You just want that appoinment to come - or to know one way or the other what the future will hold! Yes, I remember it well! (Hard to believe a year has passed!). I'll be praying for peace for all you parents & potential mids - this can be a heart-wrenching process! Thank God DS' appt came in fairly early or we would've eaten eachother alive I think!

We feel your pain - haha! Hang in there - one way or the other, the Navy is already teaching you something: perseverence! You are also learning one of the military's favorite catch-phrases: Hurry up and wait!".

A final note however, keep in mind that while an appoinment may bring some relief, there remains a couple of months until I-day. I don't think I exhaled until DS actually took the oath! We were fairly relieved that a left-foot kicker got his position in Varsity Soccer senior year - we missed seeing him play as much, but worrying about him getting hurt was stressful! Should an appt come in, keep the bubble wrap handy!

I can appreciate all the words of encouragement during this process, but I have to be honest I hope this long long process ends with what I want, an appointment in the end, and not dissapointment. I keep wondering if I am going to be one of those who end up with a rejection or on a wait list, your mind starts to drive you crazy reading all the posts! Does anyone know of people getting notified this late in the game with an appointment ?? I know not everyone looks at this sight, but haven't heard of anyone from West Michigan being notified yet either way. At this point I don't want to make phone calls to my nominating sources, or my BG Rep, for I think it really won't make a difference. I think they would contact me as soon as they know.Trying desperately to stay positive.

judging from the wait list letter i got, all appointments have gone out, and if fewer than 1200 accept they will review files to send out more.

br2011 - I can see your point. But with so many that have received neither an offer, rejection or wait list letters and the history of offers being given through April it seems that there could be more to come. I know we are all grasping at what makes us feel better.

My son also received the wait list letter yesterday. Now he can stop chasing the mailman.

We've heard nothing here. No waitlist letter. A fair number of appointees who will decline wait until the deadline (May 1?) but I don't know many.

Do a forum search on QuiggLawrence and TriDude87. They got appointments days before IDay. I rememeber them both because their experiences were so compelling.

I called Admissions today....I will receive my Appointment next week in the mail.

I'm FREAKING OUT...HAHHAHAHA I'M IN!

Indeed, K, what you have revealed may be that while a great many decisions have been made re: appointments, a number have not been informed of those decisions.

Offers hope for those waiting. Indeed, this is the ultimate weekend for hoping and assurance.

way to go Kryptor!!!!!

It's FOR REAL!!

Tell me again--where are you attending school now?--It looks like my son may have to follow your path--nothing in the mail yet--but spoke to BGO and it doesn't look good--I don't even think he actually made the wait list--seems that he is too far down and will get rejecteion letter soon:(...
Son has NROTC scholarship and is seriously thinking about Tulane? Has been accepted there and Tulane actually covers room and board for NROTC scholarship students.:) He will visit in about a week...Spoke to recruiting officer there and he said Tulane usually sends one NROTC mid to Academy each year--so if S still wants to attend Academy in a year--what is the best way to go about that? Any suggestions?

I currently attend the University of Central Florida, www.ucf.edu

I just joined Army ROTC this semester (I didn't contract or except a scholarship, just enrolled), so I'm not sure about that aspect of your son's journey. However, my advice would be to tell your son to have an awesome time at whatever college he chooses, and to get involved...there's SO many things to do at a civilian school to keep you busy and are FUN. One of the things I'm going to miss most is all-night all-campus capture the flag at my current school. Also, reinforce to him that this should be a time to mature...it'll give him a leg up when he reapplies.

What an excellent response!!--I think you are more than right about FUN!! My son is a serious young man and ever since he was accepted to NASS he has been completely driven--and has not even enjoyed one minute of his senior year! So i am thinking this is God's way of giving him a year to enjoy life and mature--and if he still wants this dream--he can go for it next year...

Good Luck Kryptor! I hope my son will one day be able to meet you! You are a real Class Act and the Navy is very lucky to get you!

God Bless you on the MOST GOOD FRIDAY!!

Well the mailman has come and gone and not a word!!! This is crazy!!!

Yea, I heard Dustin H. had to get a big-time vision waiver. Already had the LOA that he'd never get out.

Oooh, that hurt - it's the endurance thing I was going for. Dustin would have had trouble w/ the male height req, too. (But it was funny.)

Looks like I'm the second eviction. Received letter of rejection from Annapolis this week followed by an appointment to West Point!! So I guess this is a bitter-sweet ending.....

What else can I say....

I guess the only thing left is...

GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!! :D (Aaaaaah! Never thought I'd say that!)

Any idea how many are wait listed and percent that get in that are wait listed?

Just wondering who else out there with an LOA is waiting on medical waiver decisions.

Congrats FewAndProud16! Wise decision! We are all on the same side.

Good job F and P16 and good luck! Army is a great school, too. You can go Rangers.
