Ahhh, a small correction - the book I recommended is "Endurance" not Endeavor and it's the non-fiction account of Ernest Shackelford's attempt to navigate the Antarctic.

Hey fEw and Proud!!

Congrats and way to GO!! Son #2 (15 yrs old) is a big West Point fan!!Maybe you can mentor him in two years!!!

So proud of your appointment!! I am sure you have to feel a tremendous sense of relief and especially accomplishment!! Great Job!!!

After reading "Endurance", one knows why teaching navigation by the stars can be a real lifesaver! One of the most amazing stories of leadership and will.

few and proud -- congrats on wp

Sealion's son has received a waitlist letter. Since he has the NROTC scholarship and was admitted to Harvard he will probably go there. Tho I do not know that for sure - it's just a guess on my part. He may decide to stay on the waitlist.

He did reason that any spot he would give up at Navy could be filled w/in 24 hours by a great candidate but if he doesn't take the spot at Harvard that unit will inevitably be one guy short because it's so darned difficult to get into the school.

As always, best of luck to those still hanging. Wherever you end up 'fair winds and following seas.'

It appears that my son may be in the same boat (ship) -

On Thursday, he was notified by his BGO that he has been waitlisted....after a follow-up email to the regional director with questions (all similar to those here and no definitive answers - so nothing to share) she indicatd he would receive an e-mail advising him of his waitlisted status.

To date, no e-mail (nor a letter) has arrived....what is one to make of this - has everyone else been notified via snail mail? Did anyone get an e-mail?

Does anyone know if all the appointments for their MOCs have been accepted? What happens if a MOCs appointee declines - does that spot go to the next in line in the state/district or does the 'spot' go to the national pool?

It seems that there are many, many clearly qualified, CVW-ed, etc. candidates on this pretigious wait list - what is the deal??!!??

Personally, I have yet to recieve anything from USNA since my acadmically qualified status letter a few months ago, but I would assume anything "official" would have to go out via snail mail to inform candidates of their status'. Good, or bad, news is that in about 20 days it will all be over for most - but not all - of us as college decisions are finalized.

you had to be scholastically qualified to be invited to the cvw. i guess this year's class was just pretty great.

All communication, so far, with USNA has been snail mail.

That is not correct. Many at my mid's who were not scholastically qualified.

There is a high probablility that you both are correct. During the earlier sessions, many probably had not yet been before the board, while for these later sessions, most have.

Just want to throw in a plug for NROTC here. For those who didn't get chosen for the Academy this year, give the NROTC route a try. You may find you really like it and if you still want to reapply to the Academy next year, it seems it could only be a plus that you have shown your determination and committment to service by going NROTC when the Academy door was initially closed to you. S chose to go NROTC (didn't apply to Academy) and it has been a great experience so far.

Just got Wait Listed. May 1 looming for backup plans too....can any BG's confirm or deny that if you accept another SA Appointment on May 1, and then if USNA comes thru, back out of it?

Scorecard:

Of the 23 listed as waiting a few days ago on this forum;
Rejection: 1
Wait listed: 8
No news: 11
Offer: 1

Honestly tell me what everyone thinks.
At this point, do people get appointments this last week, or will it be mostly likely a rejection or a wait list??

I too would like to know if this is possible, as it seems this may be a very big factor for a lot of people here.

Naval Academy Foundation students will receive appointments this week.

Also, why would they wait till the last week to give you a rejection? Trying to make sense of it all.

Hey Ga--

What is "Naval Academy Foundation students"????

Students who have been selected (much in a similiar way to NAPS) to recieve a need-based scholarship to a private military prepatory academy in order to prepare for next year. Each year around 55-60 recieve it, and it has an extremely high rate of return (something like 98% of all those who recieve it recieve appts next year)
