I applied in early November and still haven't heard anything, which usually isn't very rare but I'm dying to know!
I e-mailed them and the advisor said to send my first semester grades for them to make one, but I wasn't deferred then asked to do that, the advisor simply asked for them. I applied for fall but am just shooting for summer at this point.
Hope this will help:
GPA: 3.6 (w)
SAT (superscore): 1640
ACT: 21
My parents were both out of work in my junior and sophomore year which caused me to have to hold a job since then to help financially. Both years were a 3.4 and 3.3, respectively, but I was in a predicament with standardized tests as well. I couldn't take the SAT or ACT until my senior year because my parents needed the money to pay for other things.
Other than all of that:

Speech and Debate Chaplain
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Tutoring After School

I also am very close with my school's headmaster and principal and can get recommendations if needed and I'm taking the ACT again Feb 9.
PLEASE chance me! It's my dream school!!

Fees for ACT and SAT tests can be waived for students who don’t have the money. Same thing for application fees to apply to most colleges. Talk to your high school guidance counselor about how to get the fees waived.

Smart taking the ACT test again. Good luck!

I honestly commend you on all your academic accomplishments and I hope you don’t take it the wrong way but with all your financial difficulties, how are you going to make it away from home in college? Loans will only go so far and based on your academic record, scholarship money may not happen.
One option may be the military as their GI bill covering college may be the thing for you… Just a suggestion…

Financial aid is available for USF students with need. The #1 most important thing to do now is make sure you and your parents have submitted the 2013 FAFSA. If you and your parents haven’t done the free FAFSA yet–do it this weekend asap. The FAFSA is needed wherever you may end up attending school if you want financial assistance for college.
[USF: USFAS - Complete the FAFSA](http://usfweb2.usf.edu/finaid/quickinfo/fafsa.aspx)

A combination of federal, state, USF, and private scholarships, grants, loans, work-study, outside employment, along with your parents’ financial assistance can make it possible for you to attend USF like tens of thousands of other present and past USF students with financial need have.

USF will provide a financial aid award proposal to you before school starts to help you with your financial planning and decision making.

I commend you for all your efforts despite the challenges you have faced. I really hope you are accepted. Complete the fasfa and email usf constantly. My admissions council is from the office of international admissions but contact him and hopefully he can help you. His name is Bryan Anderson , email: sflbryan@usf.edu

Plus there are plenty of scholarships that cater specifically, or with preference, to students who’re minorities and/or have great financial need. That on top of Bright Futures, a pell grant maybe, etc should really lower your cost of attendance.

USF has a whole list of scholarships and there’s one for students who’ve faced great obstacles in their life. It has Jenkins in the name. I don’t know if you’ve applied already, but yeah.

Hey guys, So I go to a community college right now as a freshmen and I was looking to transfer to the University of South Florida next fall. I graduated high school with a 2.9 and right now I have a 3.5. My Act was a 21. I will have 25+ credits by next fall. What do you think my chances are of getting in?
Also when do you think I should know by? I applied late November.
Thanks for the help.

Sctilett, I have no idea when you’ll know, but I think you have a great chance at USF. UCF will automatically accept transfers from certain (all?) community colleges. Does USF do that too?

They said I didn’t have the freshmen requirements because I graduated
With a 2.9 and 3.7 is their average. I had the transfer requirements though so overall it’s just ****ty. Hopefully ill get into USF

Their requirement gpa is 3.7? That doesn’t sound right. I hope you do. Apparently, their admissions isn’t as strange. Good luck. X) I wonder why they haven’t replied yet, though.

Yeah UCF is becoming really hard to get into. I don’t know why either, it’s freaking me out. It’s been almost 3 months. Thanks for the good luck! Where do you go?

High school. I just applied. I’ve only recently finished applying to instate schools because I’m stupid and only applied out of state. I was accepted to all but two (decision pending and my hardest schools) with scholarships but they’re still pretty pricey.

Before I went onto this site, honestly, I thought UCF was super easy to get into. I used to offhandedly tell my brother (who has lower scores than me) to apply there just as a safety school. Now I find out it’s super hard. I just really wish my school had been clear about that and I hadn’t needed an online forum to help me figure this out.

Yeah that is weird that they wouldn’t tell you. UCF is just getting so big. What’s your gpa and test scores? Did you get into USF? Also where else did you apply?

Pretty much my guidance counselors go up and sound like, “Community College, UF, Community College, Community College, Rollins, UF, Community College.” I didn’t even find out that UCF admitted everyone from certain ccs I dual enrolled. My gpa is recalculated to about a 3.5 or 3.475 and my SAT’s a 1320/1990. I really wish they were higher. I haven’t gotten into USF though I hope I will.

I applied to USF (pending), UCF (pending), New College of Florida (accepted), Kenyon College (pending), Grinnell (pending), Andrews (accepted), Knox (accepted), and Wooster (pending). So you can see why I’m nervous. All my acceptances have been from small schools that are no where near the Most Applicants per Year List (UCF’s #25 and USF’s in I think the #40s on c o l l e g e p r o w l e r dotcom)

Dang? To my scores in a good way? Lol, you’re probably the only person on this forum who thinks that. I will! Even if I’m rejected. X( Have you applied anywhere besides UCF and USF?

Btw, New College was the only in-state school I applied to because it’s like an lac but in Florida and public, so my parents’ like it.

haha sorry no, no. Dang to the part about your counselors not helping much.
All your stuff looks great.
I applied for UNF and havent heard back from them either. UF is my dream school but I would have to finish my AA for that.
