Does anyone know when FSU's nursing program sends out their decision?! I've already been accepted into FSU but there would be no sense in attending if I wasn't accepted into my major and I'm so impatient its getting hard to just sit here and wait! :)

The limited access programs at FSU are competitive getting into. I guess with nursing now at FSU you have to apply to program before you even step foot on campus as a freshman, even after being admitted to FSU. I got caught off guard coming to FSU with the limited access stuff. I arrived as a first year beginning student last fall with 30 plus credit hrs from dual enrollment in high school. So the limited access program I want to get into I had to apply to this month to get in for next fall because of the mapping track, fall term is the only term students can begin program. So if I’m not admitted this month’s decisions, I have to change majors and kill a year to try again next year to get in the program I want–or change colleges. It seems like I am getting rushed after only being here one semester.

yeah I know what you mean. I also heard it is very difficult to transfer into majors like this if you had not applied your freshman year. Thankfully I already applied into their nursing program so now I’m just waiting :/

The decision for the freshman is coming around the middle of February.

oh jeez, so soon. thanks rnbound!

Your welcome. I can’t wait to find out. How confident are you about getting in? And if you don’t mind me asking, what are you test scores?

“Limited access” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s hard to get into. It just means you have more specific course and grade requirements. At least, that’s what I’ve been told and what I’ve experienced in MIS, and it’s been like this for over a decade.

Not gonna lie, nursing is very competitive major.

Before this year, it was limited access at the junior level, with applications taken after gen ed and basic requirements completed. It was so competitive, even FSU students with good stats had to apply to several nursing schools as getting into FSU Nursing was tough. And no one wanted to go to FSU for 2 years then transfer. Many did not get in, but still did not want to transfer. So they took an extra year to get GPA up etc, and still did not get in. Tough to change majors after three years. Many left to go back home to state college/cc nursing programs. So at least the limited access is as a freshman, and you won’t have to go through that later. But good stats will get you in. How good? This is the first year for freshman acceptance, so know one knows.

By no means do I think I’m over the top qualified… I feel like I’m on the border of acceptance/rejection. The gpa kills me but I’m hoping they look at my grades and see an upward trend because I really only did bad my freshman year, but I guess we will have to see. What are your test scores and gpa? Here’s mine:

gpa: 3.5
SAT: 1200/1890

Is that your weighted gpa? Because they require a 3.75. And i kinda feel the same way. I have a 4.2 gpa and 26 act.

It’s a shame students with 3.5 GPA’s and 1200 SAT scores, who should be more than qualified for nursing class work, can’t get get into limited access nursing schools because of overcrowding. It seems one of the biggest problems in nursing education today is getting qualified instructors because the best nurses can earn much more money working in the private sector and hospitals than as teachers in nursing colleges. It’s maybe a bigger shame because there is such a need for additional nurses in the health industry.

I couldn’t agree more, Tallalassie.

did anyone ever hear back?

Agree with Sunny - FSU Nursing is very competitive.

Best of luck to all applicants.

Florida needs more university educated nurses. Too many qualified students are being denied admission to Florida state university nursing schools. Perhaps public health needs for Florida would be better served expanding state university nursing programs instead of building so many costly new medical colleges.

lizmarief, the letters are going to be sent out on March 2. So it will be soon

thanks rnbound!

Actually, check your fsu status check. For your major does it say “Nursing, NFA” or just “Nursing” ?

I know mine says Nursing NFA and I still haven’t heard… I’ve called the office of admissions twice and the college of nursing twice and no one has given me anything helpful

Maybe notifications won’t be put online until just before 5 p.m. tomorrow when school shuts down for spring break!
