My D applied the end of Oct. Her test scores and transcripts have been in for weeks now and still no change in status (She applied fall 09) I dont know if maybe the counselor form didnt get submitted and maybe thats the hold up? There is no way to check if your file is truly complete...I am wondering what to have her do now or to just do nothing?.I would think if something was missing they would at least send a letter or something wouldnt they? Does it usually take this long? Her stuff has been in for at least 5-6 weeks now....anyone else have such a long delay? I thought she would have been deferred by now at the very least (Her scores arent stellar)

When we realized that our d's transcripts were never arriving (3 times was the magic number), we emailed the admissions office. They responded quickly and were able to answer questions related to "missing" info., etc. We've always been told that if you don't hear immediately look at it as they haven't made a final decision on you, yet. Good news, you haven't been declined, bad news, you haven't been accepted. Perhaps sending 7th semester transcript as update would be good (especially if grades are great). Good luck!

They already have her 1st qtr grades they came out first week of Nov which is when the transcript was sent out so it cant be that...should I have her email them? I know they wont tell me anything I called there once and they were quite rude so I dont want my D calling and ticking them off...I will tell her to just email them I guess and see what they say...Thanks

Yeah, have her email them. The admissions folks were quite pleasant emailing. :)

I applied for summer 2009 in middle of Nov, my transcripts have been there since then and still no response. I have read of others who have been deferred for test scores or grades, and some who have been accepted immediately.

Don't know what to make of it? I thought they had rolling admissions and responded quickly.

They do have rolling admissions and most seemed to be accepted quickly back in the fall..if they matched the criteria that UCF wants. From what I see, if you have a 3.6 unweighted GPA and a 1070 or better on your SAT you should have no problem. If you don't have the GPA and SAT score they are looking for, then you get deferred. Some of those deferrals are now starting to turn around. I think they are more swamped now with all the apps too. I'm sure you will get your answer soon. Hang in there!

My W-GPA is 3.99, U-GPA is 3.53. SAT is 1090 with 580 in writing. Do they even look at the the SAT writing?

Sounds like I'm borderline based on your stats. I have good ECs, captain on varsity and club sports teams, and good employment history so I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks much for the reply!

I think you should be fine, especially if applying for Summer. Yes, they do look at the writing. It sounds like a good match school for you.

I posted that I applied for summer, but I think I only did that for FSU. Both my parents went to FSU, but when I visited there last spring, they said that they would be admitting 900 fewer freshmen because of budget cuts. So I'm figuring my SAT scores are not high enough to be accepted there.

For UCF, I applied for fall 2009. Since you seem to have a good sense of what they are looking for, do you think I should amend my app? I have decided that if I get into both schools, I'm going to go to UCF.

Thanks!

That's exactly where I'm at.. changed my app for Summer hoping it will help my chances. I was deferred for Fall, due to my SAT scores. Retook them and they are slightly better. It's been around 2 weeks. So far no word.

Congrats on getting accepted. What a great start to the new year!

No word yet but I'm hopeful I'll hear something soon. I e-mailed admissions the weekend before Christmas to verify that they have everything but no response yet.

Best of luck to you.

they are open tomorrow and then closed for the rest of the week. if you call admissions, maybe they can look at your file to make sure they have everything. worth a try. my new status showed up this morning on line. So hopefully yours will change very soon too.

I applied 6 weeks ago and there was no info until today.

"Your application has undergone an initial review and is currently deferred for further evaluation with the Admissions Committee. A decision may be delayed as we assess the strength of this year's applicant pool.

If you would like to submit additional information or test scores to improve your competitiveness and allow us to make a more immediate decision, please send additional credentials to the UCF Office of Undergraduate Admissions, P O Box 160111, Orlando, FL 32816-0111."

I'd heard that other applicants were specifically deferred to improve grades, SAT or something more specific. Has anyone gotten this message? What did you do and what was the outcome?

Showing interest at this point would definitely help your case. My friends son last year had his college guidance counselor call and they had told her to send his semester grades (midyear grade report) and to submit teacher recommendations. They also suggested that he retake his SAT but he refused. He eventually DID get accepted, in April, but by then he had decided to attend UNF and was happy with his new decision.

Yes, this is the exact message that D got. Nothing seemed to change it, even after sending a packet with essays, resume, recommendations, etc. She retook the SAT's and only did 30 points better. So we decided to change her Fall application to Summer and got accepted 2 weeks later for Summer 2009. She is really excited now. UNF is also a strong possibility for her as well though. While not as grandiose, it is more of a community feel and lots of new construction. Still half considering it. Send in your semester grades and a letter continuing to show interest. Anything is worth trying to turn it around, and I do know quite a few people locally that were deferred and eventually accepted last year.

^^
My daughter's best friend is going to UNF. In fact, it was the only Fl school she applied to as most of the others were just way too big for her comfort zone. She loves UNF, and she's very excited about going. She'll be studying nursing, and it's got a great program with all the jacksonville hospitals up there. It is sooo about fit for the student, and I sometimes think that gets lost in all the other stuff.

My D has still not heard anything and she applied in october. I really would like to know whats going on but if I call they wont give me any info...

I sent Admissions an e-mail after I had not heard from them for 6 weeks after learning from posts that others were getting a reply in 1-2 weeks, some in just days. It was a very polite e-mail asking them to confirm that all my information had been received. I then waited two more weeks for an e-mail reply which when received stated that a deferral WAS a response. The information posted on-line had been updated to deferred on the same day the e-mail response was sent to me, by then 8 weeks after my information had been received. I suggest that your D call because the e-mail route did not work too well for me.

she already emailed them and now awaits their response...She honestly doesnt care anymore since she got into 3 of her other top choices..She just wants to get her decision since we paid for the app..

well my D got an email yesterday stating her app was complete the beginning of December and bc of the holiday they are behind or whatever and she should keep checking online for her status...She doesnt have the test scores they want so Im really surprised they havent deferred or rejected her already..Perhaps that will be forthcoming in the near future...In the meantime..the wait goes on!
