Still waiting?

Still waiting to hear back from Alabama on admission. Everything has been in for a month, at least. How long did it take before any of you had a decision?

Thinking it was about 3 weeks after DSs transcripts were received, but that was a month or so ago. I imagine things will start to take longer as apps pile up. As long as your status shows all items received you should be fine…
you know what Tom Petty says…

Do you know with certainty if your HS has sent transcripts yet?

Did you apply online? (online apps are processed in a more timely fashion)

Were your stats on the lowish side?

Did you have your ACT or SAT sent?

You can contact the school and check the status… Just fill in the form (see link) with your info and ask if UA has received all your stuff…application, transcripts, ACT or SAT score [Contact Us - Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](http://gobama.ua.edu/contact/contact_us.html)
You can even leave your phone number and ask them to call you.

BTW…did you also fill out the scholarship app if you think you qualify?

The above post makes a good point, as apps pile up, the process slows down.

i thought you couldn’t fill out the scholarship app until accepted?

Mike…

You need to fill out the scholarship app ASAP. You don’t wait until accepted. Think of it this way…scholarship apps need to received by Dec 1. If someone were to apply to the college in November, they might not get their acceptance until after Dec 1st…then it would be too late.

Now, if you’re waiting for a higher test score…go ahead and apply now, and if the ACT (oct) or SAT (november) is higher, they will give you the higher scholarship once they receive those scores. But, for scholarships, UA only takes up to Oct for ACT…and Nov for SAT.

I know for sure transcript was received because we called a month ago and they had it. Scores and GPA are on the way high side for Alabama, can’t see any issues there. Those were sent directly after the June SAT. Just a little concerned about the wait! Already applied for scholarships.

oops … my bad …

my DD has already been accepted and also filed out the scholarship app.

is there a way to check to see if the scholarship app is complete etc?

sum1 does it say anything is missing in the mybama section under check status? i noticed son’s didnt update with acceptance, we got actual letter, so if it says everything is received it may not say admitted…maybe letter got lost?? have you called recently?

Mike think if you go back into academics in mybama and click on the scholarship app, it shows if they need anything else…son didnt need anything else and it was updated the next day if i remember correctly, he has heard back already on the automatic level.

it took a while for my DD 's acceptance to come, but i think it was because the school was not very speedy at getting her transcript sent.

how long to hear back on scholarships? i think DD just sent that last weekend.

i just checked mybama. it shows that thet received scholarship app. and shows her class rank. that’s about all. it has categories for leadership/service etc, but it doesn’t say anything.

yep that is what sons did, didnt say it needed anything more, so i guess that means it was complete.

son got his scholarship award today, so about 7- 10 days. but still has essays to do for honors programs and he also got invite to apply for fellows . it never ends LOL…this is the weekend to do common app essays, UAB and UA honors program ones and now even more are needed.

parent56 - you wanna crack the whip on my DD to do her essays this weekend?? i am not getting anywhere with her. grr!

haha

: )

Help! I need help keeping all these essays straight.

So, we can apply to the Bama Honors college and have to write essays even if not admitted yet?

And parent, next weekend will be the essay weekend for us. Exams next week.

Doing the UAB Honors application, too. Gave the teachers their rec forms. Don’t forget that!

Need to do common app essays and supplements as well.

Do we need teacher recs for the BAMA Honors program?

I know that when DS2 applied last year, he applied in Aug, and he got his acceptance back about 3 weeks later. The Presidential scholly came (I think) in December.

I wonder if UA delays a bit with the scholly notifications because it knows that kids are still testing. They probably don’t want to do “double duty” - award a lower scholly and then have to later award the higher one. If that’s true, then after the Nov SAT scores come in, the awards can be determined and letters can be sent.

here is the info i wrote down on essays and timelines etc.

with an act of 28 or higher you can apply for honors

UHP and IHP have a deadline of feb1
CBHP has a deadline of Jan5
these need the essay done online (one for each program you apply to) and CBHP requires an upload of resume (NO mention of letters of rec)

Fellows you must be invited to apply… Deadline is Dec4
2 essays
optional letter of rec (if sent must be postmarked by Dec 1)

Blount initiative has its own application (sorry mailed it to my son and didnt make copy but you could look it up on line)

Son got his presidential scholar letter yesterday so his took about 3 weeks total from app to scholarship notification and fellow invitation.

Montegut… you’re right UAB does have letter of rec requirements for its programs. son has handed those out, and needs to do the essays.

Mike, good luck!!! i have threatened my son (and i swear/promise I would NEVER do it) but said if he didnt get them done i would write them LOL that scares him to death!!! “omg they would sound so cheesy, they wouldnt be me at all” He has a band concert today but is supposed to pick up the phone immediately after and then we begin… probably a good thing we do it by phone so i dont see the heaving sighs and eye rolling.

It makes sense that presidential scholarship notifications go out rather immediately since the other higher schollies don’t get notified until spring (NMF and Fellows). However, if your child has now qualified for a lower scholly, it would make sense that UA would wait a bit more for notification since kids are still testing to earn Presidential or lower schollies.

mom2, i think he also applied for another scholarship, and no notification for that, I assumed that he heard so quickly about presidential was because of the fellows invitation…as it has a deadline of dec1. and also they wouldnt need to wait for any other test scores as he already qualified for this level. if he was just below they might not have sent it so quickly.

parent56

a hint about Fellows…

email the Fellows office and ask what they do in Fellows, so you can tailor your essays to somewhat work. I know that they do some work in the Black Belt of Alabama…but it that can be misleading…some think it has something to do with an area that many African-Americans live and some think it has something to do with the soil that is there.

And, the lady that answers such emails has a “male-sounding first name,” so don’t make the mistake we made and write Mr. in front of her name… :frowning: (Her name is Wellon…I just noticed that they now have “Mrs” in front of her name…I guess too many made our mistake…LOL )
