Stock Portfolio as an EC?

Right now I am applying to transfer to a few schools, but more as a barometer to see how strong of a canidate I am versus actually transfering. Nonetheless, I invest my own money in stocks as a hobby and a way to first and foremost make money. Can I put this on my applications as an extracurricular?

I invest in the market as well. I used to be a day-trader but ultimately decided to just leave my funds in a long-term position since I did not have the capable capital to make a pleasing weekly income. I have never quite thought of it as an EC, but if you don’t have many other EC’s to list, then I would put it down.

I have been doing that for almost 2 years now…it’s more like a hobby such as coin collecting or gardening it is not much of an EC unless it’s a school club that pools in its members’ funds and then invest them for gains and if you hold some position in that club

I think it could be. Even I dont play with the real money, but it let you know more about the stock, if you are in some related major in your field. I think EC also can include personal, just like playing the Stock Market. But, this kind of EC must be a little bit impressive to the admission, if you want to put it in your application, right? :)

Sure, but no school is going to consider it impressive unless you’ll be paying your own way through school with the earnings or somehow quantify success. Many kids play with stocks.

haha well I think I might do some type of finance or economics, so I figured that maybe the school would look at it as me having a personal interest in the subject.

Nice to see that hmom hasn’t abandoned the CC community. I was actually curious about the exact same thing, OP. I too am very active on investopedia (not real money), but I’ve come a long way and managed to muster up a lot of knowlegde- it’s the real thing minus the stress. lol. I think I am going to mention it on the application.

I don’t think it really counts as something you could list as an EC. However, it might be a great thing to mention in your essays.

I would like to revive this thread. People can learn a lot from simulated stock markets, really. I, for one, am starting to love investopedia, and I happen to be doing VERY well… Now, who would like to look at it from an admissions officer’s point of view? Any college reps here? Anyone? Anyone? lol.
