Stony Brook Acceptance Letter

Is direct admission to the major usually common for this major or they can get admitted but not for this major?

Not sure how common direct admission is.
If you are talking about AOI-CS. This is what i found:
AOI-CS Needs 3.2 GPA in 3 Pre-req courses within one year. Minimum B with only one course repeat.
Not sure how hard this is. Check reddit.

Applied OOS CS on 1/22. Got admission update on portal today. However, as others pointed out, no admission letter yet, so I don’t know what the details are. Contacted assigned Admissions Counselor and he said that it can take up to 2 days for the letter to show up and I just need to wait

how did it show on the portal without a letter?

Can you share your stats for CS. I submitted my application in October and I have not received any updates since. I’m instate too

I’m an international student and I just got accepted. It said “ As a student accepted with an “Area of Interest (AOI) in Computer Science”. Is it different from direct admissions? What does it mean btw :smiling_face_with_tear:

I applied December 1st and I am instate and I still have not received a decision. I applied CS so I dont know if they are admitting by major.

@Linda_Quinn
Not sure if your twins have applied for honors (for honors scholarships), but in general hoping your twins would get one or more of the below scholarships. Last year around mid-March scholarship decision has been conveyed to us. Yes, the sticker price is on the high side for OOS for public institutions. I am hoping they try to match to your instate fees or closer, on the top you may get other scholarships if you qualify (like National Merit etc). Good luck.

Some pre-reqs need to be done with a certain gpa to declare the major.

Sure. OOS UW 3.66 W 4.12 Strong ECs - President of club at HS, volunteering, teaching, CS internship.

If you don’t mind me asking, what about AP/College Courses and also letter of recommendations?

AP CS A, AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, AP Statistics, 2 Dual enrollment Calculus III level courses - multivariable, AI related summer camp and 2 strong letters of recommendation

Plus PreCalc Honors, Physics Honors (equivalent of AP Physics 1 in DS’s HS) and Chem Honors

Got accepted to aoi in cs. Just curious that if students don’t pass requirements of AOI in CS what will happen? Do they have to change major to something like Information system or will they get eliminated out of the college and need to transfer to other college?

Thank you! Best of luck with your results! From what I’ve heard, their order for when applications are reviewed is completely random so don’t feel discouraged.

I’m pretty sure you get outright rejected from the university and the student can write some sort of rejection letter to switch majors? I’m not sure, just speculation

Any idea on when they will release their bs/md decision?

Have they started calling for interviews?

hi there! My son was accepted into the engineering program last week! yayyy
Just waiting on the financial package now.
