Stony Brook: Any current posters/lurkers acquainted with this school?

I know a couple who are thinking about Stony Brook and they asked me if I have heard anything about it. I don't know a thing about it...or what it's reputation is, what other schools Stony Brook students applied to, what types of students would typically fit in best, etc. When I started to say I didn't know about it, they got scared off. So if there's any interesting information about Stony Brook I can share with them -- or point them to here or elsewhere (besides BSR/Petersen's) -- please let me know.

Thanks!

Grades 7-12 Good school. Tough academics without the prestige. Formal dress ,chapel daily.
Want to know anything specific?

The headmaster is tremendous. It is in a very pretty part of Long Island. It also is somewhat less expensive than some of the Northeastern schools. You should be aware that it is a religious school.

The school is known for character development and family environment... but I don't know how good the academics are... would a top student be happy there? What schools does it compare with academically? How does it compare to the top tier schools?

Our friend's son attended. He told me that he used to be homesick for his school -- he couldn't wait to get back there after each summer. Parents are nice people, but school was excellent, has a great community, etc.

Another friend attended many years ago and was instrumental in having our family think about boarding school.
