Just got an interview on 3-28-2006 and it went well for me. The interview session was impressed and well organized by Stony Brook Honors College and School of Medicine. 9 interviewees, current BA/MD students and Honors College faculties met to know each.

I was told that this year about 1400 students applied to Honors College, among them about 450 applied to Scholar for Medicine program. This year they accepted about 100+ applicants to Honors College and expect 50 to come in. In addition, Honors College sent out 30 accepted students to School of Medicine for the consideration for Scholars of Medicine. The School of Medicine selected 21 (I guess 2-4 OOS) of them for Interview and 9 will be offered to the program. Decision will be made on Thursday, 30th and offer letters will be express mailed out on Friday.

The faculty member also mentioned that they did not expect such a big number to apply to both Honors College and Scholar for Medicine program, and the current minimum bars to apply were probably too low. The accepted or interviewed students this year are well above these bars.

One of good things for this program is that almost all accepted students will get generous merit scholarships (at least tuition free for in or out of state) for undergraduate studies in 4 years. I already got a Presidential Recognition Scholarship which will cover full tuition, fee, room and board for four years.

I also had a chance to visit the campus in the afternoon. The impression for average undergraduate activities were just so-so. However, the faculties, the related science researches and the Honors College seemed on a different level. The Medical School and its hospital are very impressed. If accepted, this program will be on my serious consideration.
