Hello, I have received my acceptance to Stony Brook University and it is my number 1 choice. I have not yet received word on either the Honors College or University Scholars acceptance. I have a 96 GPA, 1310 SAT, numerous sports and clubs along with NHS. What are my chances?
I’m also still waiting…
Still nothing? It is the first day I guess but I’d like to know if SOMEONE got in yet at least and maybe if I would have a chance too.
My D was accepted to Honors College almost 2 weeks ago. All Honors College students get the presidential scholarship, which could be an indicator for acceptance. Her letter stated that 100 students were accepted to Honors College this year. SBU is a hard college to get into so congratulation on your acceptance!
@MCMC519 Only 100 to the Honors College??? Wow. Congrats to your D!
My S won’t be holding his breathe for that one.
My D was offered a presidential scholarship and an additional CEAS dean’s scholarship, but no indication as to admission to WISE (which was the honors program she applied to.) I don’t know if that means she didn’t get in, or they just haven’t announced yet.
I’ve heard of lots of people getting into the honors college already… Hopefully that doesn’t mean they are the ONLY people getting in
Also: I would be willing to bet they accept more than 100 students, since the incoming class is usually about 60. Considering that these students are highly coveted, I would assume they accept a couple hundred at least, if not 300 or more. I doubt their yield is 60%…
It took a while before my D heard anything about the Honors College. She was accepted to SBU 1/14 and received her Honors College acceptance in March. @STEM2017 You never know! When my D was accepted to Honors College It was a nice surprise. It can happen for your S too. @thermom With the scholarships your D received I’d say she has a good shot at getting in. She still has time. Best wishes to everyone!
@fromtheshadows Here is a link about Honors College. Honors College is NOT the entire Honors Program. However, Honors College does only admit up to 100 students. http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/honors-college/about/what-is-the-honors-college.html. There is still WISE, University Scholars, and more. Here is more on Honors Programs at SBU https://www.google.com/search?q=Honors+programs+at+stony+brook+university&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
@MCMC519 The key word in your link there is “enrolls,” which is different than “admits” – think about the yield. If they only enroll 100 students nowadays into the honors college, and only admit 100 students… then ALL 100 students would have to enroll, which is nigh on impossible considering these are some of the top students in the country.
For more proof, I dug up a comment that the official SBU admissions account made on THIS website a couple years ago:
"We offer a lot more scholarship dollars than we do HC acceptances; it’s not as weird as you think. HC can only take an incoming class of about sixty, so they only make a few hundred offers. And HC admission can also be major-dependent, where scholarships aren’t. Hang in there!
Chris"
“a few hundred offers” is more than 100, I think.
@fromtheshadows I hear what you’re saying. My D was already accepted to Honors College. She is still waiting on other RD applications she submitted. Best wishes to all:)
@MCMC519 congrats! Good luck.
I still haven’t heard back regarding the Honors college results yet. I did get a Presidential and Dean’s Scholarship which isn’t really much. Stony would have been my dream college but I just cant afford it.
wow honors college results have been out and today is the first day for scholars? I really have no shot…
If you havent received the notification of your admission into the honors college, is it safe to assume that you did not get in?
University scholars people check your emails I had a pleasant surprise!
Yes I just received an email as well. Totally shocked. Wasnt expected. Pleasantly surprised.
Am I supposed to get a rejection for the Honors program or do I just assume I did not get in?
I believe ,
You get notified if you are denied. At least I got it
