So, I've been spending this past semester at a college that I can't afford, and doesn't feel suited to me. I am positive that transfer is the only option for me at this point, and Stony Brook seems to be a likely alternative; I've visited the campus, genuinely like the atmosphere, and think I would be much more comfortable there. Of course, being that I'm a freshman, I'm aware that my situation is a little unusual, but I double and triple-checked with the Stony Brook staff, and they assured me that they do take freshman as spring transfers.

I am fairly certain I would have gotten into SBU as an incoming freshman, but I've heard that the process is a little more selective with transfers. Since I have under 24 credits, most of the process is going to be based on my high school stats. I would be extremely grateful if anyone would rate my chances of getting in, or even share their own experiences with transferring to this school!

I graduated with a weighted GPA over 100 (unweighted, somewhere in the upper 90s). My SAT overall was a 1950 (Critical Reading: 720, Math: 550, Writing: 730). I'm aware that my math is low by comparison, but I'm hoping that can be overlooked, given that I maintained anywhere from a 95-98 in Pre-Calculus/Calc throughout my senior year. I got a 5 on my AP English test, a 600 on the US History SAT, and a 720 on the Literature one. I already sent in my application, and had enough combined work experience and community service to fill up almost every line (animal rescue, camp counseling, national honor society, muslim youth council treasurer, secretary of math club, etc.) I personally consider my essay and mini-essay to be very strong, as writing is my strong suit.

Do you think it likely that I'll be accepted as a transfer for the spring term? And is it true that the admissions process for transfers is significantly more rigorous, given the smaller number of applicants in that pool?

Thanks in advance!
