Stony Brook University Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

cool ok thanks for the advice! i hope to go later this week with my family since im on february break

We drove there early this morning from Boston area. Took about 5 hours leaving at 6. We also parked in the garage and walked around ourselves. Very few students seen on campus which was disappointing as we hoped to see and actually feel the energy. Seemed nice but my son is leaning toward Sacred Heart.

Got this email, Congratulations on your acceptance! This year, Stony Brook has received an overwhelming number of applications — more than 34,000 — for an entering class of less than 3,400 students, making admission especially competitive! Your achievements have earned you the opportunity to be a member of our Class of 2025 .

Typically this school has an acceptance of high 30s and this number is roughly 10%. Looks like an unusual application cycle for all colleges and which means the highly selective ones with < 10% acceptance from the past years, may be in the low single digits?

I got the same message but what they’re trying to say is that the first-year class will consist of 3,400 students but this doesn’t mean that they only accept 3.4k students. I’m guessing it would be around 10k students because they need to keep yield in mind as well.
