Stony Brook University Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

DS got accepted 11/14, applied 10/30. Super fast and we were excited. 1270 SAT, 3.7GPA in HS, Early College Program at Suffolk Community College 3.8 GPA through 36 SUNY credits. Decent ECs and extremely strong essays and LORs. He applied to 11 schools and has gotten 9 acceptances so far.

@ramenbowlcollege

They found out originally via portal. SB sent s congrats email and the portal had been updated with their acceptances. Sib1 applied first week of November, Sib2 applied end of October—not sure of exact dates

Were both applying for CS? I’m trying to figure out whether SBU notifies applicants to certain schools first or whether they–like Bing, I believe–notify very high GPA/score students earlier than others (e.g., December v Jan). Anyone know?

Ds applied for applied math (engineering school) in late October. No scores–so it’s also possible they’ll be pushing those decisions off.

ah I see thank you for answering! I hope to hear back from them soon

I’m sure you will! Someone in admissions said they’re released in batches and it’s not necessarily correlated with scores etc.

On the portal, did they ask for them to submit their mid-year report grades before they received their decisions?

Anyone know when we will hear about merit? How generous are they with merit scholarships for OOS students?

From previous years, the scholarship awards will come out in Jan-Feb and the amount can range from a few thousands to full tuition.

Any idea how SBU processes applications, e.g., do you hear earlier if you apply to a certain major or if you have particularly high stats? I’ve only seen a few acceptances posted so far and they seem like very high-achieving students (with scores) and CS major.

Anyone heard from Stony Brook ?

I think the earlier applicants have been hearing. My son applied 10/30, accepted 11/14. His friends who applied two weeks later haven’t heard anything yet.

Anyone know why I did not hear anything yet :confused:
I applied November’s first week as an undecided major but have not heard back. Growing anxious after seeing people get their decision within a week.

Congratulations! You are so smart and deserve it.
