@Sapphire50 Buff gave me 5,000 …i feel like they should have more personalized scholarships options , it seems like they give EVERYONE 3500 or 5000 …its frustrating bc whats the point of working harder
@njnetsbently I see your point. Judging by your name I assume you are a New Jersey resident, and would be paying OOS tuition for the SUNYs. For us New Yorkers, the cost of attending a SUNY is so much less than OOS schools, even with merit aid. I have low expectations my son will be offered much if any aid from Stony Brook (he hasn’t checked email yet today) so anything he does get offered would be gravy for us. For example, he has been offered $30k/year merit from Northeastern, but even with that, Northeastern would still cost us considerably more than Stony Brook. We can handle it, but it’s definitly weighs in on our decision-making.
I got an email saying I got a full tuition scholarship for 4 years but they didn’t include any exact amounts. Did any of you who received scholarships get exact amounts in the email or on solar?
@Sapphire50 , I guess Im tryna say that for us kids who got 2100-2200 , with good GPAs , its rlly nothing comapred to what others get just 100 points more on the SATs!!!
Its so cut throat out there…
in some cases a 2100 can get you what it deserves, but not everyone can/wants to go outta state for that one college …
in my case i studied , but not nearly enough as I should and was too lazy to retake …big mistake I now know
So my son just checked his email and last night he received one from Stony Brook awarding him the Presidential Scholarship with an annual value of full-time NYS tuition and broad-based fees for four years. Not sure what the broad-based fees cover, but this is an pretty amazing turn of events, and further complicates our decision-making. Son had also applied to honors college, but the letter doesn’t state anything about that, so don’t know if that means he is not being accepted to that, or if that comes separately. My sense is that they are offering him the Presidential Scholarship, but not Honors. Hope to get some more answers soon.
I got $3.5k/yr + $1k for the first year. I’m kinda bummed seeing that so many people got full tuition waived and I was wondering if this was all we get? I turned in FASFA and other stuff like that so is that included in this or will there be more coming from that?
Congrats to the scholarship recipients that went out this weekend! We were told this morning that the awards do NOT include any of the FAFSA-related aid (TAP, Pell, etc.) – that will happen this week or next.
Chris
My son also was granted $3500 & $1000 first year. Not sure if he’ll attend SB. Temple gave him a much better scholarship and even with Temple being OOS it’s cheaper then SB and we’re in NY. I don’t understand how so many people got full tution scholarships. Congrats to those going to Stony Brook and those who got good scholarships.
@sbuadmissions I have a presidential scholarship right now, but if I am accepted into honors, will I get another scholarship in addition to what I have?
Thanks!
Good question - no, it’s wrapped into your scholarship.
Chris
@sbuadmissions Are decisions for the honors college, university scholars, or wise program still going out? I haven’t received any emails. Thanks!
If I haven’t heard from SB yet does that mean most likely I have not been accepted. I check my solar account daily and the only change has been last week they added the Campus Financial Aid. I have been accepted to all my other schools but still no word from SB.
No there should be at least two batches from now to April 1. Still waiting here as well.
seriously about to turn into a fossil from this waiting game…

@huang12345 Congrats pal!!! That’s awesome that you got into Stony Brook. Will you be attending? If so, I hope to see you there. :+)
@sbuadmissions Hi Chris. I have some quick questions regarding merit scholarships. Are merit scholarships still being given out because I did not hear back about any financial aid awards yet? Also, does everyone get awarded some type of scholarship or no? And finally, do you know of any programs or scholarships (like the NYS STEM Incentive Program) that would help make the cost of attending Stony Brook lower? Thank you so much.
@LOLHELPME woops I’m so late but thank you!! Congrats on getting into SBU as well Are you planning to attend there for sure?
I got Full Tuition Covered and Broad Based Fees too for 4 years…(Presidential)… Well I did well on the SATs but does like affect your admission into the honors college in any way?
Hey everyone I have a question! I applied to Stony Brook reg. decision and was accepted about a month after applying. I received an email about a week ago with my financial aid. $3500/yr Presidential Scholarship. Today however, I got a letter saying I’ve been accepted to the Honor’s College which i heard was about impossible to get into so I’m pretty excited. I was doing a bit of research on the Honor’s College and I found that all selected students receive a scholarship along with the admittance. Will I be getting more money since I’ve been accepted into the Honor’s College or are they talking about the Presidential Scholarship I received? Thank you!
